Project Elephant reflects India’s commitment to protecting elephants: Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav

On World Elephant Day, Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav, today said that Project Elephant reflects India’s commitment to protecting elephants, conserving their habitats and promoting harmonious coexistence between elephants and communities. In a social media post, Mr Yadav said that under Project Elephant, various measures are being implemented, including early warning systems and AI-based alerts to keep communities informed, solar-powered fences and trenches to protect people and elephants, and timely compensation for crop losses suffered by farmers. He added that the railways are also adopting warning signals, AI-based solutions and speed restrictions in critical corridors to prevent elephant deaths. The Minister also said that the government is promoting education and awareness to encourage communities to live in harmony with elephants.
