Tripura will host the 23rd CPA India Region Zone-III Conference on November 26–27, bringing parliamentary leaders from eight northeastern states. Speaker Rampada Jamatia invited Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and sought support for a VVIP MLA Guest House, while requesting funds for Eklavya school student transport.
Tripura is preparing to host a major parliamentary gathering in November, with the state capital set to welcome senior legislative representatives from across the Northeast for the 23rd Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) India Region Zone-III Conference.
The two-day conference is scheduled to take place on November 26 and 27 and is expected to bring together Speakers, Deputy Speakers, Presiding Officers and other senior representatives from all eight northeastern states, along with representatives of the North Eastern Region Institute of Parliamentary Studies and Training (NERIPSTR). The event is likely to become one of the most significant parliamentary gatherings hosted by Tripura.
Tripura Legislative Assembly Speaker Rampada Jamatia has initiated preparations for the conference and stepped up efforts to ensure the participation of key national leaders. On August 7, Jamatia met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla in New Delhi and formally invited him to attend the upcoming CPA conference in Tripura.
The meeting highlighted the state’s efforts to strengthen parliamentary cooperation and provide a platform for meaningful discussions on legislative affairs, democratic institutions and regional development. The participation of senior parliamentary leaders from the northeastern states is also expected to promote greater coordination and exchange of legislative experiences across the region.
During his meeting with Om Birla, Jamatia also submitted a memorandum seeking support for the construction of a VVIP Vidhayak Atithi Shala, or MLAs’ Guest House, in Tripura. The proposed facility is estimated to cost around Rs 15 crore and will have 50 rooms across approximately 25,000 square feet.
The proposed guest house is intended to strengthen Tripura’s parliamentary infrastructure and provide suitable accommodation for legislators, dignitaries and other important guests during major conferences and official programmes. Such a facility could also support the state’s ability to host future national and regional-level events.
Jamatia also held a separate meeting with Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram on the same day. During the meeting, he submitted a memorandum seeking Rs 84 lakh to operate buses for students studying in Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) until hostel facilities at the institutions are completed.
The proposed transportation support is aimed at ensuring that tribal students from remote and difficult-to-reach areas can continue attending their schools without disruption. The initiative is particularly significant for students who may otherwise face difficulties commuting to EMRS institutions while permanent residential facilities remain under development.
The CPA conference was originally scheduled earlier but was postponed from April because of monsoon-related conditions. With the revised November schedule, Tripura is now preparing to host the event with a focus on parliamentary engagement, regional cooperation and institutional development.

The conference is expected to provide an important platform for discussions on legislative practices, democratic governance and cooperation among northeastern states. At the same time, Tripura’s preparations reflect a broader effort to strengthen parliamentary infrastructure and improve educational support for tribal communities.
With the participation of representatives from all eight northeastern states anticipated, the 23rd CPA India Region Zone-III Conference could further enhance Tripura’s visibility as a venue for important parliamentary and democratic engagements.
