West Tripura Zilla Parishad Acting Sabhadhipati Biswajit Shil urged citizens to begin the anti-drug campaign from their homes during the launch of the Nesha Mukta Sankalpa Abhiyan, supporting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a drug-free Tripura and a developed India by 2047.
Calling for united public participation against the growing menace of drug abuse, Acting Sabhadhipati of the West Tripura Zilla Parishad, Biswajit Shil, on Saturday stressed that the fight against narcotics should begin at the household level. He made the appeal while attending Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s virtual launch of the Nesha Mukta Sankalpa Abhiyan at Sakhicharan School in Agartala.
The event was part of the nationwide rollout of the Centre’s anti-drug campaign, with participants from across the country joining the Prime Minister’s virtual address simultaneously. The campaign aims to create greater awareness about the harmful effects of substance abuse and encourage citizens to actively contribute to building a drug-free India.
Speaking to media persons after the programme, Biswajit Shil highlighted the importance of collective responsibility in eliminating the drug menace from society. He said the anti-drug movement is not merely a government initiative but a social mission that requires active involvement from every family and community.
“The Prime Minister has envisioned making India a developed nation by 2047. In Tripura, Chief Minister Manik Saha has also appealed to the people to build a stronger and more prosperous Tripura by 2047. While both the Central and State Governments are implementing various development projects, drug addiction has emerged as a major obstacle to the progress of society,” Shil said.
He expressed concern over the increasing number of young people falling victim to substance abuse and stressed the need for timely intervention to protect the youth. According to him, society must create an environment where children and teenagers remain away from addictive substances and are encouraged to pursue education, sports, and other constructive activities.
Shil stated that the Central Government and the Tripura Government are working in close coordination to curb the spread of narcotics across the state. He described the Nesha Mukta Sankalpa Abhiyan as a long-term movement that requires continuous public awareness and participation.
“I appeal to every citizen to join this campaign and spread awareness about the devastating consequences of drug addiction. Only through collective efforts can we build a healthier and safer society,” he said.
Emphasising the role of families, Shil remarked that the anti-drug campaign must begin within every household before expanding to neighbourhoods and communities. He urged parents to remain vigilant and guide children towards positive values and healthy lifestyles.
“To achieve the dream of a Nesha Mukta Tripura, we must first ensure that our own homes remain drug-free. Once every family takes responsibility, the movement will naturally spread throughout localities and eventually across the entire state,” he added.

The programme concluded with participants reaffirming their commitment to supporting the nationwide campaign and working together to eliminate drug abuse. The launch of the Nesha Mukta Sankalpa Abhiyan marks another significant step towards strengthening awareness, safeguarding the youth, and achieving the vision of a drug-free Tripura and a developed India by 2047.
