Tripura’s ambitious 51 Shakti Peetha Park at Banduar, Udaipur, is set to transform the state into a leading spiritual tourism destination. Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said the landmark project will preserve cultural heritage while attracting devotees and tourists from India and abroad.
Tripura’s ambitious 51 Shakti Peetha Park project, being developed at Banduar in Udaipur under the initiative of the Tripura Tourism Department, is expected to emerge as one of the country’s most significant destinations for religious and spiritual tourism, Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said on Monday.
The project, located in the sacred land of Mata Tripurasundari, aims to recreate replicas of all 51 Shakti Peethas, highlighting Tripura’s rich religious, cultural and spiritual heritage while strengthening its position as a premier tourism destination.
Speaking after the visit of Jagadguru Shankaracharya Swami Adhokshajananda Devtirthji Maharaj, the Peethadheeshwar of the Purvamnaya Govardhan Math, Puri, Chowdhury said the revered spiritual leader inspected the under-construction site on Monday morning and expressed optimism about the project’s future.
According to the Tourism Minister, the Shankaracharya appreciated the vision behind the initiative and remarked that once completed, the 51 Shakti Peetha Park would attract thousands of devotees, pilgrims and spiritual seekers from different parts of India as well as overseas. He said the park has the potential to become a major spiritual congregation point and one of the country’s most prominent centres for religious tourism.
Chowdhury stated that the project is designed not only to provide devotees with a unique pilgrimage experience but also to place Tripura prominently on both the national and international tourism map. He added that the initiative reflects the state government’s commitment to preserving its spiritual legacy while creating new opportunities for tourism-driven economic development.
“The sacred land of Mata Tripurasundari has immense religious significance. Developing replicas of all 51 Shakti Peethas at one location is a visionary initiative that will strengthen Tripura’s identity as a centre of faith, culture and spirituality,” the minister said.
He further noted that the project would benefit local communities by generating employment opportunities, boosting hospitality and allied sectors, and encouraging the development of tourism infrastructure across the region.

The ambitious project is estimated to cost Rs. 97.70 crore and is considered one of the flagship tourism initiatives of the state government. It also aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of developing at least one world-class tourist destination in every state.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha laid the foundation stone of the project on July 13 last year in the presence of Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury and Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy.

Once completed, the 51 Shakti Peetha Park is expected to become a landmark destination, preserving Tripura’s spiritual traditions while attracting domestic and international visitors, reinforcing the state’s reputation as an emerging hub for religious and cultural tourism.
