Tripura Police has expanded the investigation team probing the death of former DGP Anurag from three to ten members. The reconstituted team will conduct coordinated daily reviews, strengthen evidence collection, and accelerate the inquiry while ensuring professionalism, confidentiality, and impartiality.
The Tripura Police has significantly expanded the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the death of former Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag, increasing its strength from three to ten members in a move aimed at expediting the investigation and ensuring a comprehensive examination of all aspects of the case.
According to a senior police official, the acting Director General of Police had initially constituted a three-member inquiry team on July 24 under the leadership of West Tripura Superintendent of Police (SP) Namit Pathak. Following a review of the investigation’s requirements, the team has now been reconstituted into a larger ten-member unit with officers from multiple police establishments to strengthen the inquiry.
The expanded investigation team continues to be headed by SP Namit Pathak. It includes Additional Superintendent of Police (Urban), West Tripura, Dhruba Nath, along with the Officers-in-Charge of the Cyber Crime Police Station, Amtali Police Station, West Agartala Women Police Station, Battala Outpost, and Ramnagar Outpost. An Inspector from the KTD Singh Police Training Academy and the previous Investigating Officer, Subhojit Deb, have also been included in the reconstituted team.
Police officials said the broader composition of the team is intended to facilitate specialised investigation, improve coordination across different police units, and ensure that technical, forensic, cyber, and field investigations are carried out simultaneously wherever required.
An official order issued in connection with the reconstitution stated that all members of the investigation team are required to function in a coordinated manner while carrying out their responsibilities strictly in accordance with the law. The order also emphasised that confidentiality, professionalism, and impartiality must be maintained throughout the investigation.
To ensure close monitoring of the progress, the order mandates structured daily review meetings. Every morning, the investigation team will hold a briefing session to assess developments in the case, assign responsibilities, and formulate strategies for the day’s investigation. An evening debriefing meeting will follow to evaluate the progress made, review the outcome of assigned tasks, identify gaps in the investigation, and determine the next course of action.
The order further directs officers entrusted with specific assignments to execute their responsibilities promptly while maintaining continuous coordination with other members of the team. Each officer will be required to submit a daily progress report to the Superintendent of Police, West Tripura, detailing investigative activities undertaken, evidence collected, technical analyses completed, and further actions proposed.

Additionally, a consolidated weekly progress report will be prepared every Saturday and submitted to the Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) for review and supervision. Officials said the enhanced monitoring mechanism is expected to improve accountability and ensure that every aspect of the investigation is examined thoroughly.
