India’s Rishikanta Singh Chanambam won the Commonwealth Games 2026 men’s 60kg weightlifting silver medal with a combined lift of 264kg, setting a new Games record in the snatch. Malaysia’s Mohamad Aniq secured gold, while Kenya’s Joshua Amunga Mboya claimed bronze.
India continued its impressive campaign at the Commonwealth Games 2026 as weightlifter Rishikanta Singh Chanambam clinched the silver medal in the men’s 60kg weightlifting event on Sunday, delivering a memorable performance highlighted by a new Commonwealth Games record in the snatch. The Indian lifter finished with a combined total of 264kg, adding another medal to India’s tally and providing a strong start to the country’s Day 4 campaign.
Rishikanta showcased remarkable consistency and determination throughout the competition. He opened his snatch campaign with a successful 116kg lift, followed it up with 119kg, and then produced an outstanding 121kg lift on his third and final attempt. The effort not only placed him at the top of the standings after the snatch discipline but also established a new Commonwealth Games record in the men’s 60kg snatch, underlining his exceptional form on the international stage.
Entering the Clean & Jerk phase with confidence, the Indian lifter successfully lifted 143kg in his opening attempt, keeping himself firmly in contention for the gold medal. His composed execution maintained his advantage over several competitors and kept the pressure on eventual champion Bin Kasdan Mohamad Aniq of Malaysia.
Looking to strengthen his position, Rishikanta attempted 148kg in his second Clean & Jerk lift but was unable to complete it successfully. The missed attempt allowed Malaysia’s Mohamad Aniq to take control of the competition by registering a successful 149kg lift, moving ahead in the overall standings.
With the gold medal still mathematically within reach, Rishikanta made a bold decision in his final attempt by calling for 151kg. Although he successfully cleaned the weight onto his shoulders, he could not complete the jerk after making adjustments, ending his challenge with an impressive total of 264kg.
Malaysia’s Bin Kasdan Mohamad Aniq confirmed his dominance by successfully lifting 152kg in his final Clean & Jerk attempt. His combined total of 273kg not only secured the gold medal but also established a new overall Commonwealth Games record in the men’s 60kg category. Joshua Amunga Mboya of Kenya completed the podium by winning the bronze medal with a total lift of 260kg.
Despite narrowly missing the gold medal, Rishikanta’s performance stood out as one of India’s finest moments in the competition. His Games-record lift in the snatch demonstrated his technical excellence and competitive spirit against a world-class field.
