The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) called off its Jantar Mantar protest after the Centre accepted key demands following Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation. The government agreed to withdraw FIRs against students, provide written assurances, and offer compensation to families affected by the alleged paper leak controversy.
The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) on Saturday announced the withdrawal of its ongoing protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar after the Central Government agreed to all major demands raised by the party following the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The development came after the third round of discussions between senior Union ministers and CJP representatives, marking a significant breakthrough in the prolonged agitation over the alleged paper leak controversy.
The decision was announced during a joint press conference held in New Delhi, where Union Health Minister JP Nadda and Union Minister Jitendra Singh addressed the media alongside CJP representatives Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka. Both sides confirmed that the government had accepted the principal demands placed before it, paving the way for an end to the protest.
Addressing reporters, JP Nadda stated that the Centre had agreed to withdraw all police cases registered against students who participated in the protest. He further assured that written confirmation regarding the withdrawal of First Information Reports (FIRs) would be issued in due course, providing legal clarity to the affected students.
Another key assurance from the government involved compensation for families of students who lost their lives in incidents linked to the alleged paper leak controversy. Nadda said the Centre would ensure the highest possible compensation under existing provisions and that an appropriate mechanism would be developed to deliver financial assistance to the affected families.
The resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had already taken place prior to the announcement and was one of the primary demands consistently raised by the Cockroach Janata Party throughout the agitation. Party leaders described the resignation as a major step towards addressing public concerns surrounding the controversy.
Speaking on behalf of the Cockroach Janata Party, Saurav Das appealed to students and supporters gathered at Jantar Mantar to peacefully conclude the protest. He said the government had accepted every major demand placed before it, leaving no further reason to continue the demonstration.
Das urged protesters to return to their homes and maintain peace, expressing confidence that the government’s written commitments would be honoured. He also thanked students and supporters for maintaining discipline during the course of the agitation.
The protest had attracted national attention over several days, with demonstrators demanding accountability over the alleged paper leak issue and the legal action initiated against students who had raised their concerns. Protesters maintained that innocent students should not face criminal proceedings for participating in peaceful demonstrations seeking transparency and justice.
Among the central demands were the withdrawal of criminal cases filed against protesting students, written guarantees regarding the cancellation of FIRs, compensation for families of deceased students, and administrative accountability through the resignation of the Education Minister.
JP Nadda emphasised that the government’s decision reflected its commitment to resolving sensitive public issues through dialogue and consensus rather than confrontation. He noted that constructive discussions between the Centre and CJP representatives had resulted in a mutually acceptable resolution.
Union Minister Jitendra Singh also participated in the negotiations, contributing to the discussions that ultimately led to the agreement. According to officials present at the press conference, both sides remained engaged in continuous dialogue before arriving at the final understanding.
Following the announcement, organisers indicated that students present at Jantar Mantar would formally conclude the protest after discussing the latest developments among themselves. CJP leaders expressed hope that the government’s assurances would restore confidence among students and their families while bringing the prolonged agitation to a peaceful conclusion.

The Centre is expected to issue the promised written assurances regarding FIR withdrawals and finalise the compensation framework in the coming days.
