Olympic bronze medallist Aman Sehrawat won gold in the 57kg freestyle event at the Budapest Ranking Series 2026 with a dominant 13-3 victory. Deepak added bronze as India strengthened its medal tally and remained in contention for more podium finishes.

India’s Olympic bronze medallist Aman Sehrawat continued his remarkable rise in international wrestling by winning the gold medal in the men’s 57kg freestyle category at the prestigious Polyák Imre, Varga János & Kozma István Memorial Senior Ranking Tournament 2026 in Budapest, Hungary. The 22-year-old wrestler delivered a dominant performance throughout the competition and capped off his campaign with a convincing 13-3 technical superiority victory over Georgia’s Roberti Dingashvili in the championship bout on Wednesday.

Aman once again showcased why he is regarded as one of the brightest talents in world wrestling. His aggressive attacking style, exceptional speed, and tactical brilliance left his opponent with little opportunity to recover, allowing the Indian star to secure the title in commanding fashion. The victory further strengthens his growing reputation on the global wrestling circuit and adds another prestigious international title to an already impressive career.

Sehrawat, who became India’s youngest-ever individual Olympic medallist after claiming bronze at the Paris Olympics, has consistently delivered outstanding performances in major competitions. Along with his Olympic success, he also holds the distinction of becoming India’s first-ever U23 World Wrestling Champion and is the reigning U23 Asian Champion. His latest triumph in Budapest reinforces his position as one of India’s strongest medal hopes heading into future international championships.

India’s medal tally at the Budapest Ranking Series also received a significant boost in the men’s 61kg freestyle category, where Deepak secured the bronze medal after a thrilling contest against Azerbaijan’s Nuraddin Novruzov. In a closely fought third-place playoff, Deepak displayed immense determination and composure to edge past his opponent 9-8, earning another valuable podium finish for the Indian contingent.

The Indian team remains in contention for additional medals as the tournament progresses. In the 65kg freestyle category, Kumar Mohit is scheduled to face Kazakhstan’s Nachyn Kuular in the bronze medal match, while fellow Indian wrestler Vishal Kaliraman will compete against Kazakhstan’s Ossumzhan Dastanbek in another third-place playoff. Both wrestlers will aim to add further medals to India’s tally and continue the team’s impressive campaign in Hungary.

Competition at the Budapest Ranking Series will continue on Thursday with the remaining men’s freestyle weight categories, including 79kg, 92kg, 97kg, and 125kg. The Indian women’s wrestling team will also begin its campaign, with wrestlers competing in the opening rounds of the 50kg and 55kg weight divisions. Expectations remain high as India looks to build on its successful start and secure more podium finishes.

Elsewhere in the tournament, several international stars advanced to their respective finals. France’s Rakhim Magamadov reached the 86kg final after defeating China’s Nan Cao 10-0 through technical superiority. However, Magamadov required medical attention following the bout and his fitness remains under observation ahead of the final against Georgia’s Vladimeri Gamkrelidze.

In the 74kg semifinals, China’s Feng Lu produced a dramatic 2-2 criteria victory over Hungary’s Murad Kuramagomedov with a decisive step-out point in the closing seconds. He will meet Kazakhstan’s former 70kg world champion Nurkozha Kaipanov in the gold medal match after Kaipanov defeated Türkiye’s Muhammed Besir 6-4 in an entertaining semifinal.
