Tripura CM Dr. Manik Saha conducted a surprise inspection of GB Pant Hospital, reviewed healthcare services, infrastructure, patient facilities, and directed officials to resolve issues while planning modern infrastructure upgrades to strengthen healthcare delivery for people across the state.

Reaffirming the state government’s commitment to strengthening public healthcare services, Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Sunday conducted a surprise inspection of the GB Pant Hospital in Agartala and directed officials to address all issues affecting patients while accelerating plans for infrastructure development and modernization.

GB Pant Hospital, the state’s premier government healthcare institution, caters to thousands of patients from across Tripura every day. During his visit, the Chief Minister personally interacted with patients and their family members to understand their experiences and identify areas requiring immediate attention. He also reviewed the overall functioning of the hospital, including infrastructure, maintenance, availability of doctors, allied health staff, cleanliness, and patient support services.

Speaking to reporters after the inspection, Dr. Saha, who also holds the Health portfolio, said GB Pant Hospital remains the backbone of Tripura’s public healthcare system and therefore requires continuous monitoring and improvement.

“People from every district of the state come to GB Pant Hospital for treatment. Naturally, the patient load here remains very high. I came today to inspect the hospital and assess whether there are any problems. I reviewed the infrastructure, maintenance, availability of doctors, allied staff and other essential facilities. Wherever restoration or repair is needed, I have instructed the Health Secretary to ensure that all issues are properly addressed and that patients do not face unnecessary difficulties,” he said.

The Chief Minister emphasized that he would personally monitor the implementation of the directions issued during the inspection and would return for another visit to review the progress.

“I will come again to recheck the situation. We must ensure that all identified problems are resolved without delay,” he added.

Dr. Saha also announced that the government is actively considering developing modern infrastructure at GB Pant Hospital, keeping public convenience as the highest priority. Drawing parallels with the recently inaugurated Civil Hospital, he said similar development initiatives are being planned for GB Pant Hospital.

“We have inaugurated the Civil Hospital, and we are thinking of implementing similar facilities here as well. The infrastructure base of GB Pant Hospital is strong, and with proper planning, we can further modernize it. Every department will be inspected, and renovation work, including the medicine ward, is already underway,” the Chief Minister said.

He further stated that meetings would soon be held with the Executive Engineers responsible for GB Pant Hospital and IGM Hospital to expedite repair works and ensure better maintenance of hospital facilities.

Earlier in the day, Dr. Saha shared on social media that GB Pant Hospital has become one of the most trusted healthcare institutions for the people of Tripura and has witnessed remarkable improvements in its services over the past several years. He reiterated that the government remains committed to enhancing healthcare facilities and creating modern medical infrastructure that prioritizes patient welfare and quality treatment.
