India has reached the quarterfinals of the Badminton Asia Junior Mixed Team Championships with a convincing 2-0 victory over Kazakhstan in their opening Group C match in Yatsushiro, Japan.
The girls’ doubles pair of Durga Esha Kandrapu and Keerthy Manchala gave India a strong start by defeating Alissa Kuleshova and Diana Namenova 11-5. Puneeth Suresh and Deepti Raj Aditi then edged past Mustafa Malikzhan and Alissa Kuleshova 11-10 to extend India’s lead.
The Indian team went on to dominate the remaining matches and comfortably sealed the tie. India also enjoyed a one-sided second set, with none of their players conceding more than six points in any match.
India is placed in Group C alongside Chinese Taipei, Kazakhstan and the Philippines. Their next match against Chinese Taipei will decide the group winner.
