Tripura receives a ₹1 crore incentive from NITI Aayog for establishing the Tripura Institution for Transformation (TIFT) under the State Support Mission. The award recognizes the state’s timely institutional reforms, evidence-based governance, innovation, and commitment to inclusive, data-driven development.

Tripura has achieved a significant milestone in its governance and institutional reform journey after NITI Aayog awarded an incentive support of ₹1 crore to the Tripura Institution for Transformation (TIFT) under the State Support Mission (SSM). The recognition comes in appreciation of the state’s successful establishment of its own transformation institution within the prescribed timeline, marking another achievement in Tripura’s efforts toward evidence-based policymaking and administrative innovation.

The incentive, announced this week, is expected to strengthen TIFT’s operational capabilities by funding new initiatives approved by the Mission Implementation Committee (MIC). Officials said the financial support will help the institution undertake research-driven projects aimed at improving governance efficiency, promoting innovation, and ensuring sustainable and inclusive development across the state.

The Tripura Institution for Transformation (TIFT) was constituted in December 2023 under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha. Since its inception, the institution has emerged as the state’s premier policy think tank, dedicated to providing strategic policy recommendations through data analytics, multidisciplinary research, policy advocacy, and evidence-based governance practices.

TIFT has been playing a crucial role in supporting the state government by developing innovative policy solutions and assisting departments in designing development-oriented programmes. The institution also aims to strengthen decision-making processes through research, technology, and performance monitoring, thereby accelerating Tripura’s long-term growth trajectory.

The recognition by NITI Aayog reflects the state’s commitment to institutional strengthening and governance reforms. According to officials, the award acknowledges Tripura’s proactive approach in implementing the objectives of the State Support Mission, which seeks to build robust policy institutions across Indian states for improved governance outcomes.

The achievement follows Tripura’s successful hosting of the “NITI-Regional Dialogue under State Support Mission: Participation by Eastern and Northeastern States/UTs” on February 3, 2026, in Agartala. The regional workshop brought together representatives from eastern and northeastern states and Union Territories to exchange best practices in governance, policy innovation, and institutional capacity building.

Government officials described the ₹1 crore incentive as a proud moment for the state, stating that it reflects national recognition of Tripura’s commitment to modern governance and institutional excellence. They emphasized that the additional funding will be invested in projects that encourage innovation, improve public service delivery, strengthen policy implementation, and support evidence-based administrative reforms.

Policy observers believe the recognition further enhances Tripura’s standing as one of the leading states in institutional transformation in the Northeast. They noted that TIFT’s successful establishment and growing role in governance could serve as a model for other states seeking to build strong policy think tanks capable of driving sustainable development through research and innovation.
