Tripura Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy led a massive anti-drug awareness rally in Agartala on International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2026. The event highlighted collective responsibility, youth awareness, rehabilitation initiatives, and the government’s commitment to building a drug-free Tripura.
Reinforcing the message of a drug-free society, Tripura’s Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy on Thursday led a large-scale awareness rally in Agartala on the occasion of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2026. The rally was jointly organized by the West Tripura District Administration and the Department of Social Welfare and Social Education.
With the slogan, “Let us all take a pledge to build a drug-free state,” the event witnessed enthusiastic participation from government officials, students, volunteers, social organizations, and citizens from different walks of life. The colorful procession moved through the main streets of Agartala, spreading awareness about the dangers of drug addiction and the need for united efforts to eliminate substance abuse from society.
The programme commenced from the premises of Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan with a pledge-taking ceremony, where participants vowed to work towards creating a healthier and addiction-free Tripura. Addressing the gathering, Minister Tinku Roy emphasized that combating drug abuse is not solely the responsibility of the government but requires active participation from every section of society.
He urged citizens, particularly the younger generation, to remain vigilant against the growing threat of addiction. According to the minister, awareness, education, and community support are crucial in protecting youth from falling victim to substance abuse. He called upon families, educational institutions, social organizations, and local communities to work together in strengthening preventive measures.

Highlighting the state’s ongoing initiatives, Roy informed that the government is constructing a modern 100-bed de-addiction centre at Bishramganj with an investment of nearly Rs 120 crore. The facility is expected to provide comprehensive treatment, counseling, and rehabilitation services to individuals struggling with addiction. He further announced that similar de-addiction centres are planned for every district of the state, demonstrating the government’s long-term commitment to both prevention and rehabilitation.
The awareness rally was attended by several prominent dignitaries, including West Tripura Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Biswajit Shil, State Women’s Commission Chairperson Jharna Debbarma, State Child Rights Protection Commission Chairperson Jayanti Debbarma, West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar, Special Secretary Tapan Kumar Das, Director I. Rangkhawl, and officials from various government departments.
Students, youth volunteers, members of civil society organizations, and government employees actively participated in the march, carrying banners and placards with anti-drug messages. Their collective presence reflected growing public awareness and determination to combat the menace of drug abuse.

The event concluded with a strong message of unity and social responsibility. Through the awareness rally and pledge campaign, the administration sought to encourage citizens to play an active role in creating a safer, healthier, and drug-free Tripura. The programme highlighted the importance of collective action and reaffirmed the government’s resolve to strengthen both preventive and rehabilitative measures in the fight against drug addiction across the state.
