President Droupadi Murmu is set to visit her home district of Mayurbhanj in Odisha on June 19 and 20, where she will participate in a series of developmental, social welfare and youth empowerment programmes. The visit has generated tremendous excitement among local residents, who are eagerly preparing to welcome the country’s first citizen back to her native region.
Adding to the significance of the visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to join President Murmu at a major public event in Rairangpur on June 20. The programme is being organised to mark two years of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Odisha and is expected to draw thousands of participants from across the district and neighbouring areas.
The anticipated visit of both the President and the Prime Minister has transformed Mayurbhanj into a hub of activity. Administrative officials, security personnel and local authorities have intensified preparations to ensure the smooth conduct of the high-profile engagements involving the nation’s two highest constitutional dignitaries.
Residents of Rairangpur and nearby villages have expressed joy and pride over President Murmu’s return to her home district. For many villagers, the occasion presents a rare opportunity to witness the President and Prime Minister from close quarters.
Reports indicate that Prime Minister Modi may also visit Pahadpur, the native village of President Murmu’s late husband, Shyam Charan Murmu. Located around 20 kilometres from Rairangpur town, the village is witnessing extensive preparations and decorations ahead of the VVIP visit.
A festive atmosphere has engulfed Pahadpur, where villagers have been making arrangements to welcome the distinguished guests. Residents who have known President Murmu since her childhood fondly refer to her as the “daughter of the soil” and view her return as a moment of immense pride for the region.
According to the proposed itinerary, President Murmu and Prime Minister Modi will arrive in Pahadpur on Saturday morning and receive a grand traditional welcome. Both leaders are scheduled to offer prayers at the revered Gosani Peeth shrine before participating in programmes focused on social welfare, skill development and youth empowerment.
Prime Minister Modi is also expected to visit the President’s in-laws’ village, where he will pay floral tributes to statues of her late husband and sons. The visit is expected to be an emotional and symbolic gesture reflecting respect for the President’s family and personal journey.
In addition, the Prime Minister is likely to visit a local educational institution, interact with students and teachers, and engage with local residents. Such interactions are expected to highlight the government’s commitment to education, youth development and community welfare.
BJP Member of Parliament Naba Charan Majhi provided details of the planned engagements, stating that President Murmu would arrive on June 19, followed by Prime Minister Modi on June 20. The leaders are expected to visit a Skill Development Centre and the SLS Memorial School in Pahadpur before proceeding to other scheduled events.
Following these visits, both dignitaries are expected to travel by helicopter to Dandbose Airstrip, where a massive public gathering has been planned. Organisers anticipate attendance exceeding 50,000 people, making it one of the largest political and developmental events in the district in recent years.
During the programme, Prime Minister Modi is expected to address the gathering and inaugurate as well as lay foundation stones for several development projects aimed at strengthening infrastructure, connectivity and public services in Odisha.
