Tripura CM Dr. Manik Saha inspected the fire-ravaged Office Lane area in Agartala after a devastating blaze destroyed seven shops and a local club. Assuring swift relief and rehabilitation, the Chief Minister directed officials to support affected families and businesses while strengthening recovery efforts and fire safety preparedness.

Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Wednesday personally visited the fire-ravaged Office Lane area in Agartala, where a devastating blaze on Monday night destroyed at least seven shops and a local club, leaving several families and business owners facing significant financial losses. The visit highlighted the state government’s commitment to providing immediate relief and rehabilitation support to those affected by the incident.

Walking through the charred remains of the affected establishments, Dr. Saha interacted directly with shopkeepers, residents, and local stakeholders to understand the extent of the damage and the challenges being faced by the victims. The Chief Minister listened carefully to their accounts of loss and hardship, expressing deep concern over the destruction caused by the fire.

Speaking to the affected traders and residents, Dr. Saha described the incident as extremely unfortunate and acknowledged the severe impact on individuals whose livelihoods depended entirely on their businesses.

“Only those who rely on a single shop for their livelihood can truly understand the magnitude of this loss. What has happened is extremely unfortunate. Considering the extent of the destruction, restoration may take at least a month,” the Chief Minister said during the inspection.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by West Tripura District Magistrate and Collector Dr. Vishal Kumar, Superintendent of Police (West) Namit Pathak, senior police officials, and officers from the Sadar Sub-Divisional Administration. Together, they reviewed the damage assessment, examined the immediate response measures already undertaken, and discussed the ongoing relief operations.

During the visit, Dr. Saha directed district and administrative officials to ensure that relief assistance reaches affected families and shop owners without delay. He emphasized the need for coordinated action among various government departments to minimize hardship and accelerate rehabilitation efforts.

According to officials, the West Tripura District Administration has already initiated steps to provide relief and support to those impacted by the blaze. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and working to facilitate an early recovery process so that normal business activities can resume as quickly as possible.

The Chief Minister also stressed the importance of restoring confidence among traders and residents who have suffered substantial losses. He assured victims that the state government would stand by them throughout the rehabilitation process and provide necessary assistance to help them rebuild their businesses and livelihoods.

The fire incident has once again drawn attention to concerns surrounding fire safety preparedness in Agartala’s busy commercial areas. Office Lane, like several other market zones in the city, is characterized by congested lanes and closely packed establishments, conditions that often make emergency response operations more challenging.

Local residents and traders have called for stronger fire prevention measures, improved emergency infrastructure, and enhanced awareness programs to reduce the risk of similar incidents in the future. The administration is expected to review existing safety mechanisms and explore additional measures aimed at strengthening fire preparedness across commercial hubs.

Dr. Saha’s visit is being viewed as a proactive step by the state government, combining immediate relief initiatives with longer-term rehabilitation planning. As recovery efforts continue, the administration has reiterated its commitment to safeguarding public welfare, supporting affected families, and ensuring that businesses impacted by the devastating fire receive timely assistance and rehabilitation support.
