The Tripura Scheduled Caste (SC) Coordination Committee submitted a 12-point charter of demands seeking improved education, scholarships, employment support, welfare schemes, hostel maintenance, and economic assistance for Scheduled Caste communities. The organization urged the government to prioritize the development and social welfare of marginalized SC students, workers, and beneficiaries.

The Sadar Sub-Divisional Committee of the Tripura Scheduled Caste Coordination Committee on Wednesday submitted a memorandum containing a 12-point charter of demands to the Deputy Director of the Scheduled Caste Welfare Department, urging the government to take concrete steps to improve the educational, economic, and social conditions of Scheduled Caste communities across the state.

The memorandum focused on a range of welfare measures aimed at addressing long-standing concerns affecting Scheduled Caste students, labourers, fishermen, leather workers, washermen, and members of the Harijan community. The organization emphasized the need for effective implementation of government welfare schemes and timely support for marginalized sections of society.

Speaking on the occasion, General Secretary Dilip Das said that the charter of demands was prepared to safeguard the interests of disadvantaged Scheduled Caste communities and ensure that welfare benefits reach the intended beneficiaries without delay. He highlighted the importance of strengthening educational support systems, creating better employment opportunities, and improving living conditions for vulnerable groups.

Among the key demands raised by the organization was the timely disbursement of stipends and scholarships for Scheduled Caste students pursuing education at various levels. The committee stated that delays in scholarship payments often create financial difficulties for students and affect their academic progress.

The delegation also sought regular inspection, maintenance, and improvement of government-run hostels to ensure a safe and conducive environment for students residing in these facilities. Better hostel management, they argued, would contribute significantly to educational advancement among Scheduled Caste youth.

In addition, the memorandum called for enhanced economic assistance to washermen and fishing communities through the provision of modern equipment, financial aid, and other support measures that could help improve their livelihoods. The committee further demanded the regularisation of irregular workers belonging to the Harijan community and better maintenance of government housing facilities allotted to beneficiaries.

Representatives of the organization urged the Scheduled Caste Welfare Department to treat the demands as a priority and initiate necessary action at the earliest. They expressed hope that the proposed measures would contribute to the overall development, empowerment, and social upliftment of Scheduled Caste communities across Tripura.

The delegation maintained that focused intervention in education, employment, and welfare sectors is essential for ensuring inclusive growth and improving the quality of life of marginalized communities in the state.
