Iran’s national football team has been cleared to enter the United States one day before each FIFA World Cup match, according to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The clarification ends visa and travel concerns after reports suggested same-day entry requirements, allowing Iran to better prepare for its World Cup campaign.

The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has confirmed that Iran’s national football team will be allowed to enter the country one day before each of its FIFA World Cup matches, putting an end to concerns surrounding the squad’s travel arrangements for the tournament.

The clarification was issued on Tuesday after reports emerged over the weekend suggesting that the Iranian team would be required to enter and leave the United States on the same day as their matches. The reports sparked concerns among football officials and supporters, who feared that such travel restrictions could negatively impact the team’s preparation and performance during the competition.

According to a DHS spokesperson, the claims were inaccurate and did not reflect the actual travel arrangements approved for the Iranian delegation.

“It was not the case that Iran would be forced to arrive the same day as their matches,” the spokesperson stated. The department further described the earlier reports as untrue and emphasized that the Iranian team would be permitted to travel to the United States a day before each scheduled fixture.

The announcement comes after weeks of uncertainty regarding visas for members of the Iranian national team. On Friday, U.S. authorities granted visas to all players and coaching staff, just ten days before the start of the World Cup competition.

However, not all members of the broader Iranian delegation received approval. Iranian football officials reported that several key administrative and managerial personnel were denied entry into the United States. According to information provided by the Iranian Embassy in Mexico, those denied visas include the team manager, two performance analysts, the media director, and a representative from Iran’s Foreign Ministry.

Despite these challenges, the team is moving forward with its World Cup preparations. Iran is currently conducting its training camp in Tijuana, Mexico, where players are focusing on final preparations before the tournament begins.

Iran’s World Cup journey is set to start on June 15 with a match against New Zealand in Los Angeles. The team will then face Belgium on June 21, also in Los Angeles, before taking on Egypt in Seattle on June 26 in their final group-stage fixture.

The team’s preparations have not been without complications. Initially, Iran planned to hold its pre-tournament training camp in Arizona. However, the location was changed amid concerns about security and political tensions following the conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran earlier this year.

In March, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Iran would be welcomed to participate in the World Cup despite ongoing political differences between the two countries. At the time, he suggested that it would not be practical for Iranian players to remain in the United States between matches, leading to speculation about how travel logistics would be handled.

With the DHS now providing official clarification, Iran’s players can focus on their performances on the field rather than uncertainty surrounding travel arrangements. The decision is expected to ease concerns within the Iranian camp as the team prepares to compete on football’s biggest international stage.

The clarification also highlights efforts by tournament organizers and U.S. authorities to ensure that participating nations can compete under fair and manageable conditions despite broader geopolitical challenges. As the World Cup approaches, attention will now shift from travel issues to Iran’s prospects in a competitive group featuring New Zealand, Belgium, and Egypt.
