The Congress Legislature Party (CLP) in Karnataka will meet today to elect a new leader following Siddaramaiah’s resignation as Chief Minister. Senior Congress leaders, including D.K. Shivakumar and Randeep Singh Surjewala, are expected to attend amid growing speculation over Karnataka’s next Chief Minister.
The Congress Legislature Party (CLP) in Karnataka is set to hold a crucial meeting on Saturday to elect a new leader following the resignation of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The meeting comes amid significant political developments within the ruling Congress and is expected to pave the way for the selection of the party’s next Chief Minister.
According to party sources, the CLP meeting will commence at 4 p.m. at the Conference Hall of Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru. Siddaramaiah, who currently serves as the Leader of the Congress Legislature Party, will preside over the proceedings.
The meeting is being viewed as a decisive moment for the Congress in Karnataka as legislators and senior leaders gather to choose a successor who will lead the government and the party in the state. The leader elected during the meeting is expected to be formally projected as the Congress candidate for the Chief Minister’s post.
Several prominent Congress leaders are scheduled to attend the gathering, including Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President D.K. Shivakumar, AICC General Secretary and Karnataka in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala, Legislative Council floor leader N.S. Bose Raju, and the party’s executive presidents.
The announcement regarding the meeting was made by Allamaprabhu Patil, MLA and Secretary of the Congress Legislature Party. All Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs), Members of the Legislative Council (MLCs), Lok Sabha MPs, and Rajya Sabha MPs associated with the party have been instructed to be present.
Political attention remains focused on D.K. Shivakumar, who is widely regarded as the frontrunner for the Chief Minister’s position. Speculation surrounding his elevation intensified after a series of high-level discussions in New Delhi involving senior Congress leadership.
Siddaramaiah recently departed from Delhi after meeting senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge. Before returning to Bengaluru, he also held discussions with AICC General Secretary (Organisation) K.C. Venugopal. During his stay in the national capital, Siddaramaiah, D.K. Shivakumar, Congress MLC Yathindra Siddaramaiah, and former minister K.H. Muniyappa were seen together, signaling continued consultations within the party.
Further discussions reportedly took place between Siddaramaiah, Shivakumar, and former minister K.J. George regarding the leadership transition and the party’s future strategy in Karnataka.
Adding to the growing speculation, Karnataka Minister H.K. Patil stated on Friday that D.K. Shivakumar is likely to become the next Chief Minister and could take oath within the next two days. Patil suggested that recent discussions among the party’s top leadership had made the succession plan increasingly clear.
His remarks have fueled expectations that the CLP meeting could formally endorse Shivakumar’s name, bringing an end to days of uncertainty over Karnataka’s political leadership.
