Tripura Rural Economic Growth and Service Delivery Project organized a post-harvest and marketing workshop in Agartala to strengthen farmers’ market access, branding, value addition, and income opportunities through improved agri-horti practices and sustainable marketing strategies.
A one-day training-cum-workshop on post-harvest management and marketing was organized by the Agri/Horti Project Implementation Unit (PIU) under the Directorate of Horticulture & Soil Conservation at Paradise Chowmuhani in Agartala on Saturday. The programme was conducted with the objective of improving technical expertise and practical understanding of post-harvest practices and marketing strategies in the agri-horti sector.
The workshop brought together District Managers (PH&M), District Managers (Agri), Cluster Coordinators, officials of the Agri/Horti PIU, and experts from Agriculture College, APEDA, and several private organizations. The training focused on strengthening market linkages and enhancing farmers’ access to wider markets and value chains.
The session was chaired by Manoj Debbarma, who emphasized the importance of efficient post-harvest management in improving the quality and marketability of agricultural produce. He highlighted that proper handling, packaging, branding, and marketing can significantly reduce losses and create better income opportunities for farmers.
During the workshop, participants received detailed training on crop planning, harvesting methods, input and output marketing strategies, and modern post-harvest practices. Discussions also covered sorting, grading, packaging, processing, branding, promotion, e-marketing, and export marketing. Resource persons explained how value addition and proper branding can help agricultural products compete in broader domestic and international markets.
The programme was highly interactive, allowing participants to exchange ideas and gain practical insights into market-oriented agricultural development. Officials stated that the training would help field-level workers implement more effective post-harvest and marketing activities across different districts.
The initiative aligns with the vision of the Tripura Rural Economic Growth and Service Delivery Project under the Tribal Welfare Department, which aims to build a sustainable and market-driven agri-horti ecosystem in tribal-dominated regions of Tripura. The project seeks to improve livelihoods by promoting better agricultural practices, strengthening market connectivity, and supporting farmers with modern marketing tools.
