Tripura will launch a statewide Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls from September 2026 under the Election Commission of India’s nationwide voter verification drive to ensure transparent, accurate and updated voter lists before publication of final rolls in December.
A comprehensive revision of electoral rolls will begin across Tripura from September 2026 after the Election Commission of India announced the schedule for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process ahead of future electoral activities in the state. The exercise is being regarded as one of the most significant pre-election administrative measures aimed at ensuring accurate, transparent and updated voter records.
According to the official notification issued by the Election Commission, the Special Intensive Revision in Tripura will be conducted in multiple phases between September and December 2026. The qualifying date for the revision exercise has been fixed as October 1, 2026, while preparatory activities will commence from September 5.
Election authorities stated that training programmes, printing of electoral materials and logistical arrangements will continue from September 5 to September 14 before the field-level verification process begins across the state.
As part of the revision exercise, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will carry out extensive house-to-house visits from September 15 to October 14, 2026. During this period, officials will verify voter details, collect required electoral information and identify necessary corrections in the voter database. The Election Commission has also directed authorities to complete the rationalization and finalization of polling stations by October 14.
The draft electoral roll for Tripura is scheduled to be published on October 21, 2026. Following the publication of the draft rolls, citizens will be allowed to file claims and objections regarding inclusion, deletion, correction or modification of voter details.
The period for submitting claims and objections will continue from October 21 to November 20, while election authorities will examine and dispose of all applications between October 21 and December 19. The final electoral roll, after completion of verification and correction procedures, will officially be published on December 23, 2026.
Officials said the revision programme is intended to eliminate errors, remove duplicate or ineligible entries and ensure that all eligible voters are properly enrolled in the electoral rolls before future elections.
The Election Commission has also emphasized the importance of public participation during the revision process. Awareness campaigns are expected to be launched across Tripura to encourage citizens, especially first-time voters and newly eligible electors, to verify their names in the voter lists and complete necessary corrections within the stipulated timeline.
Political parties are also expected to play an active role during the revision exercise through Booth Level Agents (BLAs). Official figures released by the Election Commission revealed that Tripura currently has 3,356 Booth Level Officers and 6,757 Booth Level Agents involved in electoral management activities. The state presently has nearly 28.97 lakh registered electors as of May 12, 2026.
The Commission stated that Tripura has been included in Phase-III of the nationwide Special Intensive Revision programme along with 16 States and three Union Territories. The schedule for the third phase was prepared considering the availability of field-level administrative machinery already engaged in Census-related activities in different parts of the country.
Nationwide, the Election Commission expects more than 3.94 lakh Booth Level Officers to participate in door-to-door voter verification under the Phase-III exercise, covering nearly 36.73 crore electors. Around 3.42 lakh Booth Level Agents appointed by political parties are also expected to assist in the process.
The Commission described the Special Intensive Revision as a transparent and participative democratic exercise involving election officials, voters, political parties and grassroots-level electoral workers. Authorities have urged political parties to appoint Booth Level Agents in every polling station to strengthen transparency and cooperation throughout the process.
Election officials believe the revision drive will significantly improve the credibility and accuracy of electoral data in Tripura. Administrative observers say the exercise is especially important ahead of future electoral processes, as accurate voter rolls form the foundation of free and fair elections in a democratic system.
The announcement has already attracted attention from political parties and administrative officials across the state. Analysts believe the successful implementation of the Special Intensive Revision will help strengthen voter confidence, streamline electoral management and ensure greater transparency in the democratic process.
