Tripura CM Dr. Manik Saha attended Somnath Swabhiman Parv in Agartala, urging youth to reconnect with cultural roots, Sanatani values, and India’s historical heritage while commemorating 75 years of Somnath Temple reconstruction.

Chief Minister Manik Saha on Sunday called for greater awareness among the younger generation about India’s cultural roots, traditions, and Sanatani values while participating in the state-level programme of Somnath Swabhiman Parv in Agartala.

The event was organized at the Shivbari premises on Central Road to commemorate 75 years of the reconstruction of the historic Somnath Temple after centuries of repeated invasions and destruction. The programme highlighted themes of national pride, cultural consciousness, and spiritual heritage.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Saha said that initiatives inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi are helping citizens reconnect with India’s ancient civilization and Sanatani traditions. He stressed that active participation of young people in such programmes is essential to preserving the country’s heritage for future generations.

According to the Chief Minister, the phrase “Somnath Swabhiman” represents national consciousness, self-respect, and pride in civilization. He stated that people must never forget their language, culture, traditions, and historical identity, adding that awareness among youth about their roots is becoming increasingly important in modern society.

Dr. Saha described the Somnath Temple as a timeless symbol of India’s indomitable civilization and spiritual strength. He said the temple continues to stand tall despite repeated destructive attacks throughout history, reflecting courage, resilience, and unwavering faith.

Speaking about the historical significance of the temple, the Chief Minister recalled that the Somnath Temple was first attacked in 1026 by Mahmud of Ghazni and was subsequently destroyed and rebuilt multiple times over centuries. Despite these invasions, he said, the temple survived as a symbol of resistance and civilizational continuity.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the contribution of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, popularly known as the “Iron Man of India,” in rebuilding the modern Somnath Temple after India’s independence. He noted that Patel’s determination paved the way for the reconstruction project nearly 75 years ago.

Dr. Saha further stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the sacred site now represents India’s ongoing cultural renaissance. He said the Somnath Temple has become a powerful reminder of the country’s spiritual legacy and collective self-respect.

The Chief Minister remarked that nearly 1,000 years have passed since the first attack on the temple, while independent India has now completed 75 years since its reconstruction and inauguration. He said this milestone is being celebrated across the nation through year-long observances under the Somnath Swabhiman Parv initiative.

According to him, the nationwide programme began on January 11, 2026, and will continue until January 11, 2027. The Agartala event formed part of this broader national campaign aimed at promoting cultural awareness and heritage consciousness among citizens.
