Tripura observed the 79th World Red Cross Day 2026 with statewide blood donation camps, organ donation pledges, and humanitarian programmes across all districts, promoting unity, compassion, voluntary service, and community solidarity under the theme “Unity in Humanity” led by Indian Red Cross Society.

Tripura joined the global observance of the 79th World Red Cross Day 2026 on Friday with a series of humanitarian programmes organized across the state, promoting the theme “Unity in Humanity” through blood donation drives, organ donation pledges, and community participation.

The Indian Red Cross Society’s Tripura State Branch led the celebrations with district-level events conducted simultaneously in all eight districts, highlighting the organization’s continuing efforts to strengthen humanitarian service and social responsibility throughout the state.

The main programme was held at Red Cross Bhavan in Agartala, where dignitaries, volunteers, healthcare workers, and social activists gathered to commemorate the legacy and mission of the Red Cross movement. The central attraction of the event was a mass blood donation camp organized under the slogan “Blood Donation, Life Donation,” aimed at encouraging voluntary blood donation and supporting emergency healthcare needs.

Similar blood donation camps were also organized by district branches across Tripura, reflecting a coordinated statewide effort to increase awareness about the importance of blood donation and public service. Volunteers and donors from different sections of society participated enthusiastically in the initiative.

A deeply emotional moment during the programme came when three individuals pledged posthumous organ donation, reinforcing the humanitarian spirit of the occasion. Their commitment was widely appreciated by participants and guests, as it symbolized selflessness, compassion, and the willingness to save lives even after death. The organ donation pledges also highlighted the growing awareness regarding organ transplantation and the importance of community support for such life-saving initiatives.

The Agartala event was attended by Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu, Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder, BSF Inspector General A.K. Chakraborty, noted social worker Shyamal Kumar Deb, Indian Red Cross Society State Branch General Secretary Chandan Debnath, and Vice Chairperson Asmita Banik, along with several distinguished guests and volunteers.

Addressing the gathering, speakers emphasized the importance of humanitarian values, voluntary service, and social unity in today’s world. They noted that the Red Cross movement continues to play a vital role during emergencies, disasters, health crises, and social welfare activities by mobilizing volunteers and supporting vulnerable communities.

Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu praised the contribution of the Indian Red Cross Society in Tripura and acknowledged the dedication of volunteers working tirelessly for public welfare. He stated that initiatives such as blood donation and organ donation pledges represent the true spirit of humanity and inspire society to stand together during times of need.

The programme also served as a reminder of the Red Cross movement’s longstanding mission to promote compassion, peace, and human dignity without discrimination. Organizers said the overwhelming response to the blood donation camps and organ donation pledges reflected the growing public awareness about humanitarian responsibilities in Tripura.
