Tripura CM Manik Saha will attend BJP government oath-taking ceremonies in West Bengal and Assam, marking major political victories for the party. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, and senior BJP leaders are expected to participate in both high-profile swearing-in events.
Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha is set to participate in the oath-taking ceremonies of the newly formed Bharatiya Janata Party-led governments in West Bengal and Assam, marking two major political events for the ruling party at the national level.
Speaking to reporters in Agartala before departing for Kolkata, Dr. Saha confirmed that he would attend the swearing-in ceremony of the first-ever BJP government in West Bengal. The ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata and is being viewed as a historic political milestone after the BJP secured a decisive mandate in the recently concluded Assembly elections.
According to party leaders, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President Nitin Nabin, Union ministers, and chief ministers from BJP-ruled states are expected to attend the event. West Bengal Governor R.N. Ravi will administer the oath of office to the incoming government.
The BJP’s victory in West Bengal has significantly altered the political landscape of the state. The party secured 207 seats in the 294-member Assembly, defeating the Trinamool Congress led by Mamata Banerjee, which managed to win only 80 seats. The result marks the first time the BJP will form a government in the eastern state after years of political expansion and aggressive campaigning.
Dr. Saha said the electoral outcome reflected a strong desire for political change among the people of West Bengal. He recalled his campaign visits to several districts during the election period and stated that there was a visible “wind of change” in favour of the BJP.
“During the pre-poll campaign, I visited several places in West Bengal and witnessed a strong wave supporting the BJP. The final result turned out to be even bigger than expected,” he said.
The Tripura Chief Minister also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, crediting his leadership for the BJP’s continued electoral successes across India. He described Modi as a leader with a strong and influential presence in the country’s political environment and said the BJP’s victories in multiple states reflected growing public confidence in the party’s governance model.
The Kolkata ceremony also coincides with the birth anniversary celebrations of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore according to the Bengali calendar, adding cultural significance to the political event.
Following the West Bengal swearing-in ceremony, Dr. Saha is scheduled to attend the oath-taking event of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government in Assam on May 12 in Guwahati. The BJP retained power in Assam for a third consecutive term, strengthening its political hold in the Northeast.
In Assam, the BJP won 82 seats in the 126-member Assembly. Its alliance partners, the Asom Gana Parishad and the Bodoland Peoples Front, secured 10 seats each. The Congress won 19 seats, while the All India United Democratic Front and Raijor Dal won two seats each. The Trinamool Congress secured one seat in the state.
Party sources said several senior BJP leaders from Tripura are also expected to attend the Assam ceremony alongside Dr. Saha. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to be the chief guest at the Guwahati event, which is expected to witness the participation of several national and regional political leaders.
Before leaving for Kolkata, Dr. Saha congratulated senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari on being elected leader of the BJP Legislative Party in the West Bengal Assembly. In a message shared on social media platform X, Saha praised Adhikari’s dedication and leadership qualities.

Political observers believe the BJP’s strong performance in West Bengal and Assam could further consolidate the party’s influence in eastern and northeastern India ahead of future national political contests. The oath-taking ceremonies are expected to showcase the BJP’s growing organisational strength and national outreach as senior leaders gather to celebrate the party’s latest electoral achievements.
