Tripura CM Dr. Manik Saha chaired the IPAT Governing Body meeting, stressing production-based industries, bamboo and rubber sectors, investment growth, industrial expansion, and employment generation through investor-friendly policies and infrastructure development across the state.
The Tripura government has intensified its push toward industrial expansion and investment-driven development, with Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha emphasizing the need for production-based industries to strengthen the state economy and generate employment opportunities for local youth.
Chairing a key meeting of the Governing Body of the Investment Promotion Agency of Tripura (IPAT) at the State Secretariat on Friday, the Chief Minister highlighted the government’s commitment to creating an industry-friendly environment while ensuring inclusive growth across rural and tribal regions.
During the meeting, Dr. Saha stated that production-oriented industries have historically played a major role in the economic success of countries around the world. He stressed that Tripura must capitalize on its own natural and local resources, particularly bamboo and rubber, to establish sustainable industries capable of attracting investment and creating long-term economic opportunities.
“The present government is industry-friendly. Tripura has immense opportunities for industrial development, and we must focus on production-oriented sectors to ensure long-term growth,” the Chief Minister said while addressing officials and stakeholders.
He also noted that several investors have recently shown interest in launching projects in the state, indicating increasing confidence in Tripura’s industrial potential. According to him, expanding industrial activities would not only strengthen the economy but also create large-scale employment opportunities for the younger generation, especially in tribal and remote areas.
The meeting reviewed multiple development proposals, including plans to establish industries in the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) at Jalefa in Sabroom. Officials also discussed a proposal to set up a medical college with 50 MBBS seats at Kulai in Dhalai district under the public-private partnership (PPP) model. The proposed projects are expected to contribute significantly to industrial diversification and healthcare infrastructure development in underserved parts of the state.
Industries and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma, Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha, Secretary Kiran Gitte, and senior officials from several departments participated in the meeting. Discussions focused on improving ease of doing business, streamlining administrative procedures, and reducing bureaucratic delays to ensure faster support for investors.
Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha underlined the importance of utilizing Tripura’s forest and natural resources strategically to build industries with greater chances of long-term success. He also stressed the need for maximum participation of local communities in the industrial ecosystem so that economic growth benefits people at the grassroots level.
Senior officials including Secretary to the Chief Minister Apurba Roy, Abhishek Singh, and Milind Ramteke also attended the deliberations.
