Tripura CM Dr. Manik Saha said senior citizens are invaluable assets for the new generation, carrying experience, traditions and values. Speaking at a felicitation programme in Agartala, he highlighted government welfare initiatives, healthcare support for elderly citizens, social responsibility and the importance of preserving India’s cultural heritage.

Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha today said that in our society, senior citizens are the living bearers of true experience, tradition and values, and their long life experience and contribution are an invaluable asset for the new generation.“Our present government is working for the welfare of the people with transparency,” he said.

Dr. Saha said this while addressing the inaugural function of the felicitation of senior citizens at Aurobindo Club, Kasharipatty, Agartala, on the occasion of the country’s 80th Independence Day and the club’s foundation day.

“Starting from blood donation to clothing donation, they are involved in various types of activities. Today, arrangements have been made to felicitate senior citizens at the initiative of this club. Such an initiative will send a special message to society and the whole of Tripura. Other social organisations in the state will also take inspiration from such initiatives and join such programmes,” he said.

The Chief Minister said that such activities need to start from every home.

“With time, everyone will get old. The Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given special importance to preserving our old traditions. We have to capitalise on that and move forward, so that the elderly are not considered a burden and are not kept indifferent. One day or another, everyone has to leave this world. But they should leave this world with respect and, before leaving, give something to the people,” he said.

In the discussion, Dr. Saha said that, keeping in mind the health of citizens above 70, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched the Ayushman Bharat Jan Arogya Yojana for their protection, under which medical services of up to Rs 5 lakh will be available. We have also launched the Chief Minister Jan Arogya Yojana in that direction. Maintaining relations with people is very important. Everyone should make an effort to do something for society. When one person needs it, the other should stand by,” he said.

Dr. Saha also said that in the past, many foreign powers, including the Mughals and the British, attacked India.

“But even then, India has retained its own the culture and the civilisation. Even though it is a place where people of different religions and castes live, we are all united. Since 2018, this government has been working with special emphasis on preserving our old traditions,” he said.

He also said that the government wants to be transparent and is working for the welfare of the people with the transparency. Plans are being worked on for the development of Agartala city.

“The government is working continuously to implement development. Arrangements are being made to quickly discharge the water accumulated during rains into the river through pumps in the city, which is not done in any city in the country. Efforts are being made to do it faster,” he added.
