Dharmanagar erupts in tension after BJP Yuva Morcha leader Rahul Kishore Roy’s mysterious death. Family alleges harassment, protests intensify, and Chief Minister Manik Saha orders impartial probe as police investigation continues amid rising unrest in Tripura town.

A wave of grief and unrest swept through Dharmanagar on Tuesday following the mysterious death of local political leader Rahul Kishore Roy, whose body was discovered inside his residence under circumstances that have sparked allegations, protests, and a state-level response.

Roy, who served as Mandal president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha and councillor of Ward No. 5 under the Dharmanagar Municipal Council, was found lifeless in his bathroom early Tuesday morning. Reports indicate that a party scarf was tied around his neck, prompting immediate speculation and concern among family members and party workers.

The incident took a serious turn when Roy’s wife publicly alleged that he had been subjected to repeated harassment by a group of youth leaders linked to his own political circle. According to her statement, several individuals attempted to force entry into their home late Monday night, creating an atmosphere of fear and intimidation. She claimed that ongoing humiliation, threats, and sustained mental pressure may have contributed to his death.

Roy’s mother also supported these allegations, naming at least four individuals who reportedly came to their residence and tried to break open the gate in search of him. These claims have intensified calls for accountability and a swift investigation.

As news of the death spread, anger erupted across Dharmanagar. Supporters and party workers took to the streets, staging protests and road blockades in areas such as Chandrapur. Burning tyres and raising slogans, demonstrators demanded immediate arrests of those allegedly involved. The protests significantly disrupted traffic and brought normal life to a standstill for several hours.

Police authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident but have yet to make any arrests. A heavy security presence has been deployed in sensitive areas to prevent further escalation, though tensions continue to run high.

Responding to the situation, Manik Saha assured the public that the matter would be handled with utmost seriousness. In a statement shared on social media, he emphasized that the allegations made by Roy’s wife would be thoroughly and impartially investigated. He also expressed deep sorrow over the untimely demise of the young leader and extended condolences to the bereaved family.

The incident has raised broader concerns about internal conflicts, political pressure, and the mental well-being of grassroots leaders. As Dharmanagar mourns the loss, uncertainty and tension linger, with many urging authorities to act swiftly to ensure justice and restore public confidence.
