A wave of celebration swept through Tripura’s capital as senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Biplab Kumar Deb returned to Agartala following what party leaders described as a landmark electoral success in West Bengal. The former Chief Minister and current Member of Parliament from West Tripura was welcomed by enthusiastic supporters at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport, where chants, drums, and floral tributes created a festive atmosphere.
The reception reflected the party’s strong approval of Deb’s role in strategizing and campaigning during the West Bengal elections. Supporters gathered in large numbers, presenting him with garlands and bouquets while praising his leadership and contribution to the campaign. Party workers described the victory as a turning point in regional politics, emphasizing that the results signify a shift in public sentiment.
Addressing reporters shortly after his arrival, Deb expressed confidence in the outcome and did not hold back in his criticism of the opposition. Referring to the All India Trinamool Congress, he stated bluntly that the party’s political relevance had significantly diminished. According to him, the electorate in West Bengal had delivered a decisive mandate in favor of governance focused on development rather than what he termed divisive political practices.
Deb credited the victory to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting his vision for national growth and governance reforms. He also acknowledged the strategic planning of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and organizational leadership under BJP president Nitin Nabin. He emphasized that coordinated efforts across all levels of the party played a crucial role in achieving electoral success.
When questioned about remarks made during the campaign by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and party leader Abhishek Banerjee, Deb dismissed them as inconsequential in light of the election results. He argued that the outcome itself was the strongest response to any criticism or political rhetoric voiced during the campaign period.
Deb also commented on the decision by the Election Commission of India to order repolling in the Falta Assembly constituency. He described the move as appropriate and necessary, stating that it demonstrated the Commission’s commitment to ensuring free and fair elections by addressing reported irregularities.

Regarding the question of who would assume the role of Chief Minister in West Bengal, Deb refrained from speculation. He stated that the decision would be made by the party’s senior leadership in due course, emphasizing that the electoral process had only recently concluded.
