New TTAADC Chairman Bhabaranjan Reang sworn in as Tipra leaders invite Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu to ceremony, highlighting funding concerns and development priorities including education, healthcare, and drinking water across Tripura tribal council areas.
A new phase in the administration of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) began on Tuesday as a fresh leadership team assumed key responsibilities amid expectations of improved governance and development across the council areas.
Bhabaranjan Reang, the newly elected Member of District Council (MDC) from Kanchanpur, was formally sworn in as the Chairman of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). He succeeds senior Tipra Motha leader Jagadish Debbarma, marking a significant transition in the council’s leadership. The oath-taking ceremony took place at the ADC headquarters in the presence of all newly elected MDCs, reflecting unity within the newly formed council body.
The political developments come at a crucial time for the TTAADC, which governs vast tribal-dominated regions in the state. With the Chairman now in office, attention has turned to the upcoming swearing-in of other key functionaries. Chief Executive Member (CEM)-elect Runiel Debbarma and Executive Member (EM) CK Jamatia are scheduled to take oath on Wednesday, completing the formation of the new executive leadership.
Following the ceremony, MDCs belonging to the Tipra Motha party, accompanied by Minister of State Brishaketu Debbarma, paid a courtesy visit to Tripura Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu at Lok Bhavan. During the meeting, the leaders extended a formal invitation to the Governor to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the remaining office bearers.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, CEM-elect Runiel Debbarma described the interaction as constructive and informative. He stated that the Governor was briefed on the decisions taken during the party’s internal meeting, where MDCs unanimously elected their preferred candidates for the posts of Chairman and Chief Executive Member. According to Debbarma, the Governor responded positively and expressed willingness to engage closely with the council.
Importantly, the Governor assured the delegation of his intent to visit not only the council headquarters but also remote and underdeveloped villages within the TTAADC jurisdiction. These areas have long faced challenges related to connectivity, infrastructure, and access to essential services. The assurance has raised hopes among local leaders for increased administrative attention and support from the state’s constitutional head.
Debbarma also highlighted key concerns regarding funding constraints faced by the council. He reiterated that the financial resources allocated to the TTAADC remain insufficient to address the developmental needs of the region. Referring to ongoing political debates, he criticized what he termed as “unnecessary politicization” of the funding issue, emphasizing that the council possesses adequate evidence to support its claims of financial inadequacy.

Outlining his priorities, Debbarma stressed that the new administration would focus on delivering essential services despite limited resources. He identified education, healthcare, and access to clean drinking water as critical sectors requiring immediate attention. Ensuring improvement in these areas, he said, would be central to the council’s governance strategy moving forward.
The leadership transition within the TTAADC is being closely watched, as it holds implications for the socio-economic development of tribal communities across Tripura. With assurances of cooperation from the Governor and a clear set of priorities outlined by the incoming leadership, expectations are high for tangible progress in the coming months.
