Tensions escalated in Tripura’s Jampuijala region on Sunday after a local political office was vandalised following a celebratory procession. The incident has intensified concerns over rising political friction in areas governed under the autonomous council framework.
According to party sources, the BJP Mandal office in Jampuijala suffered extensive damage shortly after supporters of Tipra Motha carried out a victory procession through the locality. BJP workers alleged that a section of the procession participants diverted towards the office and carried out an unprovoked attack, leaving the premises severely damaged.
Eyewitness accounts and preliminary reports suggest that parts of the building’s wall were broken down, while campaign materials including flags, banners, festoons, and photographs were destroyed. Furniture such as chairs and tables were also reportedly smashed or overturned during the incident. Party members stated that nothing of functional value could be salvaged from the damaged office.
The development has added to an already tense political atmosphere in areas under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). BJP leaders and supporters have repeatedly raised concerns about what they describe as targeted intimidation and political violence since Tipra Motha assumed control of the council. They claim that such incidents have contributed to a climate of fear among party workers and sympathisers.
On the other hand, there have been ongoing protests in various parts of the region demanding the release of Tipra Motha supporters who were earlier detained following complaints lodged by BJP leaders. These demonstrations have further complicated the situation, with both sides accusing each other of escalating tensions.

Authorities have yet to release an official statement detailing the extent of damage or confirming arrests related to the vandalism.
