In sports, Indian lifters have delivered an impressive performance at the Commonwealth Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships in Apia, Samoa, securing four gold medals on the second day of competition.
Sunil Singh clinched gold in the men’s 65-kilogram category with a total lift of 271 kilograms. Aisangfa Gogoi won the top prize in the women’s 58-kilogram category, lifting a total of 185 kilograms. Abhinob Gogoi secured gold in the men’s 71 kg division with a total of 284 kilograms.
In the Universal Cup, Charu Pesi of Arunachal Pradesh bagged gold in the men’s 65-kilogram category with a total lift of 289 kilograms. Indian Weightlifting Federation President Sahdev Yadav congratulated the athletes, coaches and support staff, saying the achievements reflect their hard work and reaffirm country’s growing strength in global weightlifting.
