Gunshots disrupt White House Correspondents’ Dinner as Donald Trump is evacuated safely. Secret Service responds swiftly, suspect apprehended, and investigation continues amid heightened security concerns at Washington Hilton Hotel following chaotic scenes during the high-profile event.

A sudden security scare disrupted one of Washington’s most high-profile gatherings late Saturday night, as multiple gunshots were reported during the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner, triggering panic and a swift evacuation of attendees, including U.S. President Donald Trump.

The incident unfolded inside the Washington Hilton Hotel, where hundreds of journalists, political leaders, celebrities, and international guests had assembled for the prestigious event. Witnesses described hearing between five and eight gunshots, prompting immediate action from the United States Secret Service and other security personnel.

Agents rushed into the banquet hall within moments of the reported gunfire, instructing guests to take cover. Several attendees reportedly ducked under tables as confusion spread throughout the room. The President and senior officials were quickly escorted to safety as part of established emergency protocols.

Shortly after being evacuated, Trump addressed the situation on the social media platform Truth Social, confirming that the threat had been contained. He praised the rapid response of law enforcement agencies and stated that the suspected shooter had been apprehended. Trump also noted that any decision regarding whether the event would continue would be left to authorities on the ground.

“Quite an evening in D.C. Secret Service and Law Enforcement did a fantastic job. They acted quickly and bravely,” Trump wrote, adding that while he had suggested continuing the program, final decisions would rest with security officials.

Law enforcement agencies have yet to release full details about the nature of the shooting or the identity and motive of the suspect. However, a preliminary statement from officials confirmed that a firearm was involved and that the situation is now under control.

Eyewitness accounts painted a picture of chaos and fear inside the venue. Jamie Raskin, who was present at the dinner, described the tense moments during the evacuation, saying he was pushed to the ground by a Secret Service agent amid the confusion, as people shouted and scrambled for safety.

Following the evacuation, National Guard personnel were deployed inside and around the hotel premises. Attendees were escorted out in an orderly manner but were not permitted to return, as authorities secured the area and began preliminary investigations. Security in the surrounding parts of Washington, D.C., was also heightened.

The White House Correspondents’ Dinner, traditionally a night of political satire and media camaraderie, featured entertainment acts including Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, and was expected to draw significant attention due to Trump’s scheduled address.

The incident has drawn comparisons to the Attempted assassination of Ronald Reagan, when then-President Ronald Reagan was shot outside the same hotel in 1981 by John Hinckley Jr.. While no injuries have been reported in the current situation, the historical parallel has heightened concerns about security at high-profile political events.

Authorities have launched a full-scale investigation and are expected to provide further updates as more information becomes available. The incident underscores ongoing security challenges surrounding major public gatherings involving national leaders.
