Tripura CM Manik Saha visits violence-hit ADC areas in Boxanagar after post-election unrest. Assures strict action, financial aid, and rehabilitation for affected BJP workers amid arson, vandalism, and displacement linked to alleged Tipra Motha involvement.
Fresh tensions in tribal council regions of Tripura have prompted a high-level political response, as Chief Minister Manik Saha conducted an on-ground assessment of violence-affected areas following recent elections.
The Chief Minister on Wednesday visited parts of the Boxanagar constituency in Tripura, accompanied by the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police, to review the situation in areas under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (ADC). The visit comes amid reports of widespread post-election violence, allegedly involving supporters of Tipra Motha Party targeting BJP workers.
Several incidents of arson, vandalism, and intimidation have been reported from Dayalpara and Bijoynagar ADC area. Houses belonging to BJP workers were reportedly ransacked, vehicles destroyed, and families displaced in the aftermath of the unrest. Among the victims was Mahamaya Debbarma, vice-president of the Boxanagar Mandal unit, whose home was vandalized, forcing her family to flee. Similarly, the residence of Anil Debbarma, General Secretary of the Janajati Morcha in Sepahijala South district, was allegedly set ablaze.

During his visit to Bijoynagar, Dr. Saha interacted directly with affected families, many of whom have sought refuge in temporary shelters, including hostels and relatives’ homes. His scheduled visit to Dayalpara, however, was deferred due to security concerns following intelligence inputs indicating possible disruptions.
Addressing the victims, the Chief Minister assured immediate financial assistance and long-term rehabilitation measures. He reiterated the government’s firm stance against political violence, stating that such acts undermine democratic principles. “Democracy cannot coexist with violence and intimidation. Those responsible will face strict legal action, and no one will be spared,” he said.
Dr. Saha also directed law enforcement agencies to intensify security arrangements in sensitive areas, emphasizing the need for continuous surveillance and swift response to prevent further escalation. The administration has been instructed to ensure the safety of displaced families and facilitate their return once normalcy is restored.
The visit was seen as an effort to reassure party workers and restore confidence among those affected by the violence. The Chief Minister emphasized that the state government remains committed to maintaining peace, ensuring justice, and upholding democratic values across all regions, particularly in the ADC areas that have witnessed repeated tensions.
