Repolling in four TTAADC polling stations in Tripura ensured fair elections amid tight security, strong voter turnout, and peaceful participation. Election Commission acted on irregularities to uphold democratic integrity and restore public confidence in the voting process.
Repolling was carried out in four polling stations across Tripura on Thursday as part of the ongoing elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), following complaints of irregularities during the earlier phase of voting. Authorities enforced stringent security measures to ensure transparency and restore voter confidence in the democratic process.
At Booth No. 17 in the Kulai Champahour (ST) constituency, voters began arriving early in the morning, many describing the atmosphere as festive yet orderly. Long queues were visible soon after polling commenced, reflecting strong public participation despite the need for a second round of voting. Out of 699 registered voters, 149 had already cast their ballots by 9 AM, according to officials on duty. Residents expressed satisfaction with the arrangements, highlighting that the visible presence of security personnel allowed them to vote without fear or intimidation.
Repolling was also conducted in the Pekuajala Janmejoynagar constituency, where voters turned up once again to exercise their democratic rights. Local authorities ensured strict monitoring at the polling stations, with security forces deployed in significant numbers to prevent any disruptions. Voters acknowledged the improved arrangements and said they felt reassured about the fairness of the process.
The most closely watched repoll took place at Booth No. 5, located at Nanda Kumar Para JB School under the 11-Maharanipur-Teliamura (ST) constituency. The Election Commission had earlier annulled the voting at this booth after receiving detailed reports pointing to procedural violations. Polling resumed at 7 AM and is scheduled to continue until 4 PM. Officials reported a steady voter turnout throughout the day, with participation reaching 42 percent by midday and rising to 62 percent by 11:30 AM.
Despite the earlier controversies, the overall atmosphere at the polling stations remained calm and peaceful. Both contesting candidates, Jamatia and Utpal Debbarma of the TIPRA Motha party, were present at the booth, demonstrating a spirit of cooperation and mutual respect. Observers noted that their presence contributed to maintaining a positive environment during the repoll.
The Tripura State Election Commission emphasized that the decision to conduct repolling was taken to uphold the integrity and credibility of the electoral process. In its directive, the Commission stated that ensuring free, fair, and impartial elections remains its top priority.

Authorities reiterated that enhanced security arrangements, coupled with close monitoring, were put in place across all repolling stations. Surveillance teams and election observers were deployed to ensure strict adherence to electoral guidelines and to prevent any recurrence of irregularities.
The Commission also appealed to political parties, candidates, and voters to cooperate fully with election officials, stressing that the sanctity of the ballot must be preserved under all circumstances. With repolling conducted peacefully, officials expressed optimism that the final results will reflect the true mandate of the people.
