PM Modi and US President Donald Trump discuss West Asia tensions, stressing the need to keep the Strait of Hormuz open and secure while reinforcing India-US strategic partnership, energy security, and global trade stability amid ongoing geopolitical uncertainties.
In a diplomatic engagement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a telephonic conversation with US President Donald Trump on Tuesday, focusing on the evolving geopolitical situation in West Asia and reaffirming the importance of maintaining the Strait of Hormuz as “open and secure.”
The high-level discussion comes at a time of heightened tensions in the region, with global stakeholders closely monitoring the stability of critical maritime routes. Following the call, Modi shared details via social media, emphasizing the progress made in bilateral ties and reiterating India’s commitment to strengthening its Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership with the United States.
“We reviewed the substantial progress achieved in our bilateral cooperation in various sectors. We are committed to further strengthening our partnership in all areas,” Modi stated. He further underlined that both leaders discussed West Asia’s volatile situation and stressed the necessity of ensuring uninterrupted maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz.
The Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most crucial oil transit chokepoints, plays a pivotal role in global energy supply. Any disruption in this narrow passage can significantly impact international oil markets and trade flows. India, being a major energy importer, has consistently advocated for stability and freedom of navigation in the region.
New Delhi has also welcomed the recently announced ceasefire between the United States and Iran, expressing hope that it would pave the way for lasting peace.
