Pradyot Kishore Debbarman urges restraint among Tipra Motha workers amid Tripura poll violence, calling for lawful action against Model Code violations, rejecting political clashes, and emphasizing peace, democracy, and voter confidence during the sensitive election period.

In a strong appeal aimed at restoring calm during the ongoing election season, Pradyot Kishore Debbarman, the supremo of the Tipra Motha Party, has urged party workers to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and instead rely on legal mechanisms to address any violations.

Speaking through a social media livestream on Monday, Debbarman emphasized that violence is not a solution and warned that such actions could harm both community harmony and the overall image of the state. His remarks come in the wake of multiple incidents of political clashes reported from different parts of Tripura during the election period.

“The election season is temporary—it comes and goes. However, relationships between people last much longer and are far more valuable,” Debbarman stated. He stressed that political differences should not lead to hostility among communities, adding that recent violent incidents have already begun to tarnish the reputation of the state.

The appeal follows reports of attacks and clashes involving workers from different political parties. Several members of the Bharatiya Janata Party were reportedly injured in one such incident, including Moji Debbarman, a candidate from the Pekuarjala-Janmejaynagar ADC constituency. In a separate development, Bikash Debbarma, the Tribal Welfare Minister, was allegedly attacked at a party worker’s residence in the Mungiakami area on Sunday night.

Amid rising tensions, Debbarman revealed that his party had also received reports of attempts by certain political groups to influence voters through bribery, a direct violation of the Model Code of Conduct enforced during elections. He urged party workers and citizens alike to act responsibly and document such violations rather than engage in unlawful retaliation.

“If someone is violating the Model Code of Conduct, do not take matters into your own hands. Instead, gather evidence—take photographs or videos—and report it to the police,” he advised. He further encouraged voters to participate in the electoral process without fear, assuring them that democratic rights must be exercised freely and fairly.

Expressing confidence in law enforcement, Debbarman said he trusted the Tripura Police to act impartially based on evidence rather than political affiliations. “If electoral malpractices are occurring, I believe the police will take appropriate action,” he noted.

His message comes at a crucial time when tensions are running high, and concerns over free and fair elections have intensified. By calling for restraint and adherence to the law, Debbarman seeks to reinforce democratic values and prevent further escalation of violence.
