Tripura DGP Anurag reviews security in North Tripura ahead of ADC elections and Dharmanagar by-election, stressing strict law enforcement, border surveillance, and preparedness. High-level meeting held with officials to ensure peaceful, fair polling across sensitive areas.
With the Autonomous District Council (ADC) elections and the Dharmanagar Assembly by-election approaching, security arrangements across Tripura have been significantly intensified to ensure peaceful and fair polling. In this context, Director General of Police Anurag conducted a crucial visit to North Tripura district on Sunday to assess the law and order situation.
The DGP arrived in Dharmanagar around 11 a.m. via the Kanchanjungha Express and immediately proceeded to the office of the Superintendent of Police (SP), North Tripura. His visit comes at a critical juncture when election-related activities are gaining momentum across the state.
A high-level review meeting was convened at the SP office, attended by senior police and administrative officials from both North Tripura and Unakoti districts. Among those present were North Tripura District Magistrate Chandni Chandran, SP Abhinash Rai, Unakoti SP Sudhambika R, along with top officials from the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) and other security agencies.
During the meeting, the DGP emphasized strengthening security measures in sensitive polling booths and enhancing surveillance, particularly in border areas. He directed officials to take strict preventive actions to curb any attempts of infiltration or disruption during the election period. The focus remained on maintaining law and order while ensuring voter confidence.
This visit is part of a broader statewide initiative by the police leadership to review preparedness ahead of the elections. Over the past few days, similar security assessment meetings have been conducted in Khowai and Dhalai districts, reflecting a coordinated effort to reinforce security mechanisms across Tripura.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, the DGP stated that central security forces have not yet been deployed for the ADC elections, although a formal request has already been submitted. He assured that the state currently has adequate police and security personnel to handle the Dharmanagar by-election effectively.
