On the eighth day of the ongoing Khelo India Tribal Games in Chhattisgarh, competitions in hockey, football, athletics and archery are being held today. In the women’s hockey final held in Raipur, Odisha defeated Mizoram by one goal to nil to win the gold medal. In the match for the third place, Jharkhand secured the bronze medal by defeating Madhya Pradesh by four goals to nil.
Meanwhile, the men’s hockey final between Jharkhand and Odisha is being played in Raipur today.
In the men’s football semi-final held in Raipur, Chhattisgarh defeated Arunachal Pradesh by three goals to two to enter the final. Chhattisgarh will face West Bengal in the final.
In another semi-final match, West Bengal defeated Goa by five goals to two to secure a place in the final.
In athletics events held in Jagdalpur today, Shivani Kumar of Jharkhand won the gold medal in the women’s 400 metres hurdles. Nagini of Karnataka clinched gold in the 800 metres, while Neha Khalkho of Jharkhand won gold in the 10-kilometre race walk. In the high jump, Deepa Kisan of Odisha secured the gold medal, and in the javelin throw, Dhanmati of Odisha also won gold.
In the men’s category, Roshan Khadia of Odisha won the gold medal in the 400 metres hurdles. Dawanidhi Munda of Odisha secured gold in the 800 metres race, while Dasharath Talwar of Karnataka won gold in the 10-kilometre race walk.
In today’s athletics events, Odisha won four gold medals, while Jharkhand secured two gold medals.
In the overall medal tally of the Khelo India Tribal Games, Karnataka is leading with a total of 36 medals, including 21 gold, 8 silver and 7 bronze. Odisha is in the second position with 43 medals, comprising 17 gold, 10 silver and 16 bronze. Jharkhand stands third with a total of 19 medals, including 9 gold, 3 silver and 7 bronze.
The Khelo India Tribal Games began in Chhattisgarh on the 25th of March and will continue till the 3rd of April. More than three thousand athletes from 30 states and Union Territories are participating in the Games. Competitions are being held in seven sports disciplines – archery, athletics, football, hockey, swimming, weightlifting and wrestling, while Mallakhamb and Kabaddi have been included as demonstration sports.
