National Science Day observed at Pragna Bhavan, Tripura, as Minister Animesh Debbarma highlights science, technology, and women-led innovation as the foundation of Viksit Bharat and sustainable national development through research, evidence, and global competitiveness.

National Science Day was observed with enthusiasm and intellectual fervour at Pragna Bhavan in Agartala on Saturday, with a strong emphasis on the transformative power of science and the growing contribution of women in innovation. The programme was organised by the Tripura State Council for Science and Technology under the theme “Women in Science Catalysing Viksit Bharat.”

The event was inaugurated by Minister Animesh Debbarma, who delivered a keynote address underscoring the critical role of science and technology in nation-building. He asserted that sustainable development and global recognition depend heavily on scientific progress and systematic research.

Addressing students, researchers, and academicians, Debbarma stated that everyday innovations such as the internet and smartphones have fundamentally reshaped human life. Such breakthroughs, he said, are the direct outcomes of persistent scientific inquiry and evidence-based research. “A nation cannot be considered developed unless it stays ahead in science and technology,” he remarked, stressing that global recognition comes only when a country produces original innovation.

He pointed out that exporting agricultural varieties alone would not be sufficient to elevate India’s status as a developed nation. While agriculture remains important, he emphasised that true advancement lies in strengthening scientific infrastructure, encouraging research, and fostering technological excellence.

Drawing attention to international examples, the minister referred to China’s rapid transformation, attributing its progress to consistent investment in scientific research and innovation-driven policies. He noted that nations which prioritise science and technology inevitably gain economic strength and geopolitical influence.

Debbarma also highlighted that science is rooted in research, experimentation, and verifiable evidence rather than assumptions or untested beliefs. In an era defined by rapid technological evolution, he said, scientific literacy is indispensable for adapting to global changes.

Urging students to cultivate a deeper interest in scientific disciplines, he encouraged them to explore careers in research and innovation. “With science, the nation will move forward in step with time,” he said, adding that young minds must be empowered to think critically and creatively.

The theme of the event, focusing on women in science, reflected the growing acknowledgment of women’s contributions to research and technological advancement. Speakers at the programme highlighted how greater inclusion of women in scientific fields strengthens innovation ecosystems and promotes balanced development.

Following the inaugural session, the minister visited exhibition stalls set up at the venue. Students and researchers showcased various scientific models, research findings, and innovative projects aimed at addressing real-world challenges. The displays ranged from environmental sustainability solutions to technology-based applications designed to improve daily life.

The celebration of National Science Day served not only as a tribute to scientific achievements but also as a call to action. The event reinforced the message that scientific progress, supported by inclusive participation and evidence-based research, remains the cornerstone of India’s journey toward becoming a developed nation.
