Road and school infrastructure works under TRESP in Tripura gain momentum, with Damcherra road project nearing completion and multiple Higher Secondary school upgrades progressing across aspirational blocks to boost rural connectivity, education access, and inclusive socio-economic development.
Infrastructure development across rural Tripura is gaining steady momentum under the Tripura Rural Economic Growth and Service Delivery Project (TRESP), a World Bank-funded initiative aimed at strengthening connectivity, education infrastructure, and service delivery in aspirational and tribal-dominated blocks of the state. With focused execution in road upgrades and school infrastructure, authorities report visible progress on the ground.
According to an official press release, the road component of TRESP, implemented by the Public Works Department (Roads & Buildings wing), is advancing across 12 identified aspirational blocks. The project seeks to convert existing rural roads into durable all-weather roads, capable of withstanding seasonal disruptions, particularly during the monsoon.
A major milestone has been achieved in Damcherra Block of North Tripura district, where one significant road project has reached the completion stage. Construction work has been finalized, and the handover process is currently underway. Once operational, the upgraded stretch is expected to substantially improve rural mobility, reduce travel time, and enhance access to markets, healthcare facilities, and administrative services.
Officials say the improved road connectivity will directly benefit remote tribal communities by facilitating smoother transportation of agricultural produce and essential goods. Enhanced mobility is also expected to generate livelihood opportunities and strengthen local economic activities, aligning with TRESP’s broader objective of inclusive growth.
Parallel progress is being recorded in the education infrastructure segment. The construction and upgradation of Higher Secondary school buildings are being carried out in coordination with the Public Works Department (Building wing) and the Secondary Education Department. Authorities emphasize that modernized school infrastructure will help create safer, more conducive learning environments for students in rural and aspirational regions.
In Damcherra Higher Secondary School, the process for issuance of the Letter of Award (LOA) has been initiated, marking a key administrative step before the commencement of full-scale construction. Meanwhile, tender processes for Asharambari Higher Secondary School, Taidubari Higher Secondary School, Mungiabari Higher Secondary School, and Balaram Kobra Higher Secondary School have successfully progressed through technical and financial evaluations. These proposals have also undergone deliberations by the High Power Committee to ensure timely execution and transparency.
The steady pace of implementation reflects close administrative monitoring and coordinated efforts among departments. Officials underline that the convergence of road and education infrastructure development under TRESP is designed to address structural gaps in underserved regions.
