Union MoS Murlidhar Mohol reviews key development schemes in Khowai, Tripura, under DoNER Ministry, meets Chief Minister Manik Saha, assesses PMAY, Ujjwala, Jal Jeevan Mission, KCC, solar projects, and Northeast growth initiatives under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.

Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Cooperation Murlidhar Mohol conducted an extensive review of ongoing development initiatives in Khowai district during his visit to Tripura on Tuesday. The Minister chaired a district-level review meeting to assess the implementation of key schemes under the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) and later called on Chief Minister Manik Saha for discussions on public welfare and infrastructure growth.

The review meeting focused on evaluating the effective execution of ambitious development programs launched under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Officials provided detailed updates on scheme implementation, service delivery timelines, and project impact across rural and semi-urban areas of the district.

Focus on Key Flagship Schemes

Among the major schemes reviewed was the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, aimed at providing affordable housing to economically weaker sections. The Minister assessed progress in beneficiary identification, fund utilization, and construction timelines to ensure housing targets are met without delays.

The implementation status of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana was also discussed. The scheme, which provides LPG connections to low-income households, has been instrumental in promoting clean cooking fuel and improving health conditions, particularly among rural women.

Water supply infrastructure under the Jal Jeevan Mission was another priority area. The Minister emphasized timely household tap water connections and maintenance of quality standards to ensure sustainable rural water access.

Education infrastructure was also examined, including the current condition of primary and secondary schools in Khowai district. Officials shared updates on school facilities, teacher availability, and ongoing improvements under various central and state-supported programs.

Agriculture, Renewable Energy, and Rural Development

The meeting further reviewed the implementation of the Kisan Credit Card scheme, which provides farmers with affordable credit access. The Minister directed officials to streamline processes so that eligible farmers can avail benefits without procedural hurdles.

Renewable energy initiatives, particularly solar rooftop installations under the Pradhan Mantri Kusum scheme, were discussed in detail. The scheme promotes solar-powered irrigation and decentralized energy production, contributing to both farmer income enhancement and environmental sustainability.

Other initiatives under review included the VB Gram Ji Yojana and waste treatment and management projects. The Minister underscored the importance of modern waste management systems in maintaining environmental health and improving sanitation standards in growing urban clusters.

District Magistrate Rajat Pant and other senior officials were present during the meeting. They provided presentations outlining project milestones, fund allocation patterns, and bottlenecks requiring intervention at higher administrative levels.

Strengthening Northeast Development Through DoNER

In a social media post following the meeting, Mohol highlighted the historical foundation and expanding role of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region. He noted that the ministry was established in 2001 during the tenure of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to accelerate the development of the northeastern states, often referred to as the “Ashta Lakshmi.”

At the time of its inception, the ministry operated with a budget of approximately Rs. 25,000 crore. According to Mohol, this allocation has grown significantly to over Rs. 1 lakh crore under the current leadership, reflecting an expanded commitment toward infrastructure, connectivity, social welfare, and economic empowerment in the region.

He reiterated that the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government continues to prioritize long-term, high-impact initiatives for the holistic development of the northeastern states. Emphasis has been placed on connectivity enhancement, rural electrification, skill development, and sustainable growth models.

In a social media message, Chief Minister Saha stated that it was a pleasure to host the Union Minister and that their discussion covered critical issues concerning the progress of Tripura’s development agenda. The meeting reinforced coordination between the central and state governments in ensuring that policy objectives translate effectively into grassroots impact.

Ensuring Timely Delivery and Accountability

Official sources indicated that the overarching objective of the review meeting was to ensure efficient implementation of schemes and timely delivery of services to the public. The Minister stressed transparency, accountability, and periodic monitoring to eliminate administrative delays.

As Tripura continues to position itself as a growth hub in the Northeast, such high-level reviews are expected to play a crucial role in accelerating district-level execution. The Khowai review underscores the central government’s continued engagement with local administrations to translate policy frameworks into measurable outcomes.
