Information and Cultural Affairs (ICA) minister Sushanta Chowdhury appealed to the media for constructive criticism and said the state government is media friendly.

“Media is the fourth pillar of democracy and journalism is a great profession. The journalists should work with honesty and sincerity,” Chowdhury said.

He said, for the welfare of the media, the BJP-IPFT government took some landmark decisions including an increase in journalists’ pension from Rs. 2000 to Rs. 10,000.

Chowdhury was addressing the inaugural ceremony of Tripura Working Journalists’ Association’s biennial conference at Agartala Press Club on Saturday.

Chowdhury said, an initiative would be taken by the ICA department to hold meetings with journalists after every 2-3 months. He also emphasized on improving the skill of the journalists by hiring guest lecturers or resource persons from outside the state.

General Secretary of Indian Federation of Working Journalists- Paramananda Pandey, who attended the conference as special guest, said that an initiative was already taken to raise fund for the welfare of the journalists.

TWJA president Dibakar Debnath and general secretary Debashis Majumder along with many other members of the organization were present.
