Prof. Alak Bhattacharya of Tripura University elected IPSA Executive Member at the All India Political Science Conference in Bhubaneswar, alongside the formation of IPSA-NEIS Research Committee focusing on North East Indian political studies.

The All India Political Science Conference and International Seminar, organized under the auspices of the Indian Political Science Association (IPSA), was successfully held on December 27 and 28 at the Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) in Bhubaneswar. The prestigious two-day academic event marked a significant milestone for political science scholarship in India and witnessed key organizational and research-oriented developments.

One of the major highlights of the conference was the election of Prof. Alak Bhattacharya, Head of the Department of Political Science at Tripura University, as an Executive Member of the Indian Political Science Association (IPSA). His election reflects growing recognition of academic leadership and research contributions emerging from universities in India’s North Eastern region.

The conference also announced the formation of a new executive body of IPSA, aimed at strengthening the association’s academic outreach, policy engagement, and interdisciplinary research agenda. The newly constituted Executive Committee is expected to play a crucial role in guiding IPSA’s activities at both national and international levels.

A significant academic development during the conference was the formal declaration of the Research Committee on North East Indian Studies (IPSA-NEIS). This newly established committee is intended to promote focused research on the political, social, and institutional dynamics of North East India—a region of strategic, cultural, and geopolitical importance.

Renowned scholar Prof. Jayanta Krishna Sharma, Dean of the Faculty of Arts at Gauhati University, was appointed as the Chairperson of the IPSA-NEIS Research Committee. Prof. Alak Bhattacharya was simultaneously appointed as the Convener of the committee, positioning him at the center of future research coordination, academic collaboration, and policy-oriented studies related to the region.

The IPSA Conference witnessed the participation of nearly 3,000 political scientists, academicians, teachers, researchers, and doctoral scholars from universities, colleges, and research institutions across India. The scale of participation made it one of the largest academic gatherings in the discipline of Political Science in the country.

Multiple plenary sessions, panel discussions, and research presentations were conducted on themes ranging from democratic governance, federalism, electoral politics, international relations, public policy, and regional studies. The conference provided a vibrant platform for intellectual exchange and critical debate on contemporary political challenges facing India and the global community.
