Minister Sudhangshu Das conducted a comprehensive review of Tripura’s Animal Resource Development Department, stressing timely completion of ongoing projects, efficient fund utilization, improved vaccination drives, and strengthened welfare delivery to ensure transparency, accountability, and better livestock productivity across the state.
Tripura’s Animal Resource Development (ARD) Department conducted its second state-level review meeting on Wednesday, chaired by Minister Sudhangshu Das at the Department’s Conference Hall in Gurkhabasti, Agartala. The meeting focused on a wide spectrum of ongoing departmental activities, progress updates, financial allocations, and future requirements essential for strengthening the state’s livestock and dairy sectors.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Minister Das emphasized that the comprehensive review was crucial for ensuring accountability, transparency, and efficient service delivery across all ARD-related operations. He stated that the agenda covered important matters such as the funds allocated for the 2025–2026 financial year, progress made in ongoing projects, gaps that require immediate attention, and any additional financial needs to ensure that every project is completed within its targeted timeline.
According to the Minister, timely assessment of project implementation helps identify challenges early and enables the department to maintain steady momentum in developmental work. He added that such structured review meetings help officials coordinate better and respond proactively to emerging requirements in the livestock and dairy development sectors.
One of the major discussion points during the review was the status of the department’s annual vaccination drives. Minister Das reiterated that the department conducts statewide vaccination programs every year to prevent livestock diseases, protect farmers’ income, and ensure stable dairy and meat production. The meeting examined the current progress of the vaccination campaign, along with strategies to increase coverage and efficiency in remote and rural areas.
Another key focus area was the implementation of the Unnata Godhan Prakalp, an important initiative aimed at improving cattle productivity and promoting scientific livestock management. The Minister stated that detailed discussions were held on the project’s present status, field-level performance, and additional steps required to strengthen its delivery. He emphasized that improving livestock quality directly benefits rural households, especially those dependent on dairy production for livelihood.
The review also assessed the overall performance of the ARD Department, including district-wise progress, utilization of allocated funds, achievements over the past months, and bottlenecks affecting project execution. Minister Das issued several important instructions to officials during the meeting to enhance departmental efficiency and ensure smooth, transparent delivery of welfare schemes at the doorstep of beneficiaries.
He directed the team to adopt a results-oriented approach and complete every ongoing project within the planned timeline. The Minister stressed that timely completion not only ensures better outcomes but also enables the department to take up new initiatives without delays. He further highlighted the need for improving inter-departmental coordination so that farmers and livestock owners receive faster and more reliable services.
Ensuring transparency in all departmental functions was another major directive issued by the Minister. He urged officials to maintain clear and accurate records, respond promptly to public grievances, and ensure that welfare schemes reach eligible beneficiaries without bureaucratic hurdles. The Minister noted that transparency, combined with efficient fund management, is essential for strengthening public trust and enhancing service quality across the department.
Secretary Deepa D. Nair, Director Neeraj Kumar Chanchal, and other senior officials were present during the meeting and offered detailed presentations on departmental functioning. They highlighted various achievements, ongoing efforts to boost livestock productivity, and plans to bridge gaps in infrastructure, veterinary services, and rural outreach.
