The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has ramped up security across all stations and trains. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) intensifies surveillance, anti-sabotage checks, and inter-agency coordination to ensure passenger safety and protect railway assets amid heightened security alerts.
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) under the Northeast Frontier Railway (N.F. Railway) has intensified its security arrangements across all railway stations and onboard trains to ensure the safety and protection of passengers and railway property, according to an official press release from the N.F. Railway headquarters in Maligaon.
In view of recent national and regional security concerns, the RPF has issued high-level alerts to all its units and initiated additional deployment of personnel at sensitive and vulnerable points within the railway zone. The enhanced security operation aims to provide a safer travel environment and prevent any unlawful activity across the railway network, which spans several northeastern states and parts of eastern India.
Increased Deployment and Surveillance
The RPF has significantly increased manpower presence at key stations, including major junctions and busy passenger terminals. Dog squads have been mobilized to assist in security operations, particularly in detecting explosives and suspicious materials. Intensive anti-sabotage checks are being conducted regularly at stations, train premises, and onboard trains.
Security personnel have been directed to ensure that every passenger area is thoroughly monitored. This includes luggage scanning, random checks, and platform patrols during peak hours. The aim is to strengthen deterrence against potential security threats while reassuring the traveling public of the railway’s commitment to their safety.
Round-the-Clock CCTV Monitoring
According to the NFR release, monitoring through CCTV surveillance systems has been strengthened at all major railway stations. The RPF control rooms are observing station premises, platforms, and waiting areas round the clock. Any unattended luggage or suspicious movement is being immediately flagged for inspection by RPF personnel.
The NFR has also deployed additional CCTV cameras at critical locations to enhance situational awareness. This digital surveillance infrastructure allows for real-time response to emergencies, aiding both preventive and investigative measures.
Joint Coordination with Security Agencies
The RPF is working in close coordination with the Government Railway Police (GRP) and other local and central security agencies. Information sharing has been prioritized to ensure quick and effective joint responses to potential threats. Joint patrolling in and around railway premises has been strengthened, especially in areas identified as sensitive or vulnerable.
An NFR official stated that this coordinated approach enables faster communication, better intelligence gathering, and timely intervention in case of emergencies. The NFR believes that collaboration between multiple agencies is crucial for maintaining robust railway security.
Appeal to Passengers for Cooperation
The N.F. Railway has appealed to all passengers to extend full cooperation during security checks and screenings. Travelers are urged not to leave their luggage unattended and to immediately report any suspicious item or person to the nearest RPF or railway staff member.
The RPF has assured passengers that every measure is being taken to maintain their safety and comfort throughout their journey. “The safety of our passengers and the security of railway property are of utmost importance to us,” the NFR statement emphasized.
