 Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Wednesday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi to discuss a series of development initiatives for the state.

During his meeting with the Prime Minister, Dr. Saha proposed inclusion of the Bru-Reang community under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) and sought increased allocation of wheat under the Public Distribution System (PDS). He also raised demands for double-laning of railway tracks in Tripura, introduction of a Vande Bharat Express between Agartala and Guwahati, enhancement of the ceiling limit for Externally Aided Projects (EAPs), and establishment of 15 additional Eklavya Model Residential Schools.

The Chief Minister further sought support for the creation of an Agar Board and Research Centre, and sustainable development of the Unakoti heritage site.

Following the meeting, Dr. Saha wrote on social media that his discussions with the Prime Minister focused on several ongoing and transformative initiatives, and he expressed confidence in receiving central support for Tripura’s growth.

As part of his Delhi visit, Dr. Saha also met Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and reiterated the state’s demand for a Vande Bharat Express between Agartala and Guwahati. Discussions also covered doubling of railway lines, electrification, upgraded coaches on long-distance routes, and improved maintenance of railway stations.

As part of his Delhi visit, Dr. Saha also met Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and reiterated the state’s demand for a Vande Bharat Express between Agartala and Guwahati. In addition, the Chief Minister proposed the construction of a new building for the Tripura Film and Television Institute (TFTI), development of a film city, establishment of call centres, and strengthening of the state’s cybersecurity infrastructure.

Dr. Saha later posted that the deliberations reflected Tripura’s commitment to realizing the vision of Viksit Tripura and Viksit Bharat as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He had said that the Chief Minister has informed Union Minister Nadda about the state government’s plan to set up a new Medical College at Kulai in northern Tripura’s Dhalai district, which is an aspirational District, on a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) basis.

The Chief Minister also discussed the establishment of a Tertiary Ophthalmology Hospital at Agartala and the setting up of an Immunology Lab for Organ Transplant services at the government-run Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and GBP Hospital.

The Chief Minister requested the Union Health Minister, who is also the National President of the BJP, to provide funds for procuring advanced medical instruments at the Super Speciality Block at the AGMC.

CM Saha also urged for additional funds for Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) to settle the pending claims.

Tripura currently has three Medical colleges – Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC), Tripura Medical College (TMC) and Tripura Santiniketan Medical College (TSMC). The TSMC is a private medical college, while the TMC is governed by a state government-constituted society.
