Benchmark domestic equity indices, Sensex and Nifty, snapped their two-day losing streak today. Both indices opened higher than the previous close and extended their gains during intraday trade, to close 0.7 per cent up. The Sensex increased 575 points to close at 82 thousand 605. Similarly, Nifty advanced 178 points to settle at 25 thousand 324.
The broader market indices at the Bombay Stock Exchange closed in psoitive territory. The Mid-Cap index gained almost 1.1 percent, and the Small-Cap index added 0.8 per cent.
In the Sensex pack, 23 out of 30 companies edged upward. Among the top gainers, Bajaj Finance increased four per cent, Bajaj Finserv rose 3.1 per cent and Asian Paints advanced almost two and half a per cent. Among the top laggards, Tata Motors fell 1.2 per cent, Infosys slipped almost 1.1 per cent and Axis Bank dipped over 0.6 per cent.
Among the Sectoral indices at the BSE, all 21 sectors ended in positive territory. Among the top gainers, Realty advanced nearly 3.1 per cent, Telecommunication rose almost two per cent and Consumer Durables added 1.2 per cent.
The overall market breadth at the BSE was positive as shares of 2,503 companies advanced and shares of 1,659 companies declined while shares of 164 companies remained unchanged.
