A six-member TMC delegation submitted a three-point memorandum to Tripura Governor’s office, demanding action against attacks on its state headquarters, updates on pending cases, and security for party workers amid rising political tensions in the north-eastern state.

The six-member delegation of the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) concluded its two-day visit to Tripura on Thursday, submitting a detailed three-point memorandum to the Governor’s office. The delegation, led by party spokesperson Kunal Ghosh, aimed to highlight issues of political violence, pending investigations, and safety concerns for party members across the state.

In the absence of Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu, the memorandum was formally received by his secretary, Uttam Kumar Chakma. Speaking to the media after the submission, Kunal Ghosh expressed dissatisfaction over not being able to meet the Governor directly but said the team was given a “patient hearing” by the Governor’s office.

“Due to the Governor’s absence and our tight schedule, we couldn’t meet him in person, but his secretary has assured us that our memorandum will be placed before him. We have raised serious concerns about the unprovoked attack on our party headquarters in Agartala,” Ghosh said.

Three Key Demands Highlighted in the Memorandum

Ghosh outlined the three key demands submitted to the Governor’s office, calling for immediate and impartial action from the state administration.

1. Action against attackers on the TMC state office:
The foremost demand, according to Ghosh, was swift police action against those involved in the recent attack on the TMC state headquarters in Agartala. “The attackers’ identities are already public, and even the BJP has admitted to sponsoring the attack. Yet, no action has been taken so far. We demand that the police take strict measures against all those responsible,” Ghosh said.

2. Updates on pending police cases and earlier incidents:
The second point in the memorandum urged the state police to provide updates on earlier complaints, including those related to attacks on the convoy of AITC National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee. Ghosh reminded that even a police station came under attack in broad daylight during those incidents. “The visuals are available on social media. It is time the police act lawfully and transparently,” he added.

3. Ensuring safety and security for TMC leaders and workers:
The third demand focused on the safety of TMC members in Tripura. Ghosh said, “We have urged the administration to ensure adequate protection for our leaders, workers, and supporters. People who believe in the vision and mission of Mamata Banerjee want Tripura to progress in the Bengal model of development. They should not be subjected to political persecution for their beliefs.”

He further drew comparisons between Tripura and West Bengal, pointing out that “leaders from Tripura move freely in Bengal without fear or restriction, and we expect the same democratic atmosphere here.”

Focus on Organisational Growth in Tripura

Kunal Ghosh also reaffirmed the TMC’s commitment to strengthening its organisational structure in the state. “Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee are keeping a close watch on Tripura. The party will take the right decision at the right time regarding our future course of action,” he said.

The TMC leader’s comments come at a time when the party is struggling to maintain its presence in Tripura after a period of organisational stagnation. Following the resignation of senior advocate Pijush Biswas as the state president, the party has not appointed a new leader to head its state unit for several years. This leadership vacuum has reportedly weakened TMC’s grassroots network and its ability to mobilise local support.

However, Ghosh maintained that the party remains determined to expand its footprint in the north-eastern state, where it had earlier attempted to position itself as a viable opposition to the ruling BJP.

Political Undercurrents and Next Steps

Political analysts view this recent TMC delegation’s visit as a renewed attempt to revive the party’s influence in Tripura ahead of future electoral battles. The submission of the memorandum is being seen as both a political statement and a move to project the TMC as a voice against alleged political violence in the state.

While the Governor’s office has yet to issue any official response, TMC leaders hinted that they would continue to monitor the situation and may return to Tripura soon for follow-up action.

“The Trinamool Congress believes in peaceful politics and the democratic rights of every citizen. We hope the state government and police act responsibly to maintain law and order,” Ghosh concluded.
