PM Modi reaffirmed the Centre’s support for Manipur, launching ₹7,300 crore projects, promising better connectivity, healthcare, housing, and tribal development, while urging cooperation for peace and rehabilitation in violence-hit areas to ensure long-term stability and prosperity for the border state.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday reaffirmed the Centre’s unwavering commitment to Manipur, assuring that the Government of India would continue to support the state in its journey toward peace, prosperity, and inclusive development. Addressing a public gathering at the Peace Ground in Churachandpur, the Prime Minister emphasized that peace was the foundation of progress and urged all stakeholders to cooperate in restoring harmony.

The Prime Minister laid foundation stones for 19 development projects worth ₹7,300 crore, covering vital sectors including road infrastructure, education, healthcare, and digital growth. He underlined that the government’s focus remained on ensuring peace and stability while accelerating development in Manipur, which has faced ethnic violence since May 2023.
Peace as the Basis of Progress
PM Modi acknowledged the challenges Manipur has faced due to recent ethnic hostilities and said that talks had been initiated with various groups to build mutual trust and respect. “I appeal to all concerned to help the government restore peace and ensure development for the betterment of all, especially the younger generation,” he said.
Before his public address, the Prime Minister visited relief camps where thousands of displaced men, women, and children are still residing. He reassured them of the government’s continuous support and highlighted that over 7,000 houses were already under construction for affected families. A special package of ₹3,000 crore, along with an additional ₹500 crore, has been sanctioned to rehabilitate the displaced population.
Strengthening Connectivity and Infrastructure
Recognizing Manipur’s strategic location as a border state, PM Modi reiterated the government’s efforts since 2014 to address connectivity challenges. He noted that ₹3,700 crore had already been invested in developing National Highways, while new projects worth ₹8,700 crore were currently underway.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the progress of the ₹22,000 crore Jiribam–Imphal railway project, which will soon connect the state capital to India’s railway network. To enhance access in remote areas, more helicopter services will be introduced from Imphal airport, further boosting trade, mobility, and emergency response.
Empowering Youth and Tribals
Emphasizing employment opportunities, PM Modi announced that the Manipur Infotech Development (MIND) project would expand skilling and job creation across the state. He praised the rich culture of the tribals in Churachandpur and reaffirmed that tribal development was a national priority.

The Prime Minister announced the construction of 18 Eklavya Model Residential Schools in Manipur, catering to tribal students. He said, “I know the problems of the tribals. Their development is a priority for the government.”
Highlighting Manipur’s tradition of women empowerment, he assured that the Centre would continue to strengthen initiatives that benefit women and families in the state.
Healthcare, Education, and Housing Push
PM Modi said that good hospitals and educational institutions, once a distant dream in Manipur, had become a reality under his government. Through PM-DevINE (Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for North East Region), health facilities are being improved in five districts, with over ₹350 crore allocated for free medical treatment.
Under housing schemes, over 60,000 houses have been constructed, electricity connections provided to more than one lakh people, and piped water supplied to over 3.5 lakh households. “Earlier, funds announced in Delhi rarely reached Imphal. Today, development touches every corner of Manipur,” he added.
Among the 19 projects launched were the Manipur Urban Roads, Drainage and Asset Management Improvement Project, Working Women’s Hostels at nine locations, strengthening of 120 high schools and higher secondary schools across 16 districts, and super-speciality healthcare services for remote areas.
Overcoming Adversities to Connect with People
Due to adverse weather conditions, PM Modi travelled by road from Imphal to Churachandpur, a distance of 61 km, instead of taking a helicopter. Thousands of people lined the roadside waving the national flag to greet him during his 1.5-hour journey. Officials highlighted his determination to interact directly with the people despite heavy rain and challenging conditions.
Later in the day, the Prime Minister inaugurated additional infrastructure projects worth ₹1,200 crore from Kangla Fort in Imphal, continuing his focus on strengthening the state’s development and integration with the rest of India.
Vision for a Peaceful and Prosperous Manipur
In his concluding remarks, PM Modi stressed that the government’s mission is to ensure that Manipur moves forward on the path of lasting peace, prosperity, and inclusive development. “Many ethnic conflicts in the Northeast have been resolved through dialogue and trust. The same will be achieved in Manipur. Peace and development will go hand in hand,” he assured.
