Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has urged Liberal Senator Jacinta Nampijinpa Price to apologise after she claimed that an unsustainable number of Indians were migrating to the country. In a recent radio interview, Price said that large numbers of Indians had been allowed to migrate to Australia to vote for Albanese’s centre-left Labour Party. The comment sparked backlash from the Australian-Indian community and members of her own party.
Mr Albanese told a news channel today that the comments are not true, asserting that Price should apologise to the Indian Community. The state government of New South Wales held a meeting of community groups today to discuss what it said was rising anti-Indian sentiment. Premier Chris Minns said they have no place in Australia. External Affairs Ministry had said last week it was engaging with Canberra over the rise in anti-Indian sentiment following the protests.
