BJP minister Sushanta Chowdhury slammed CPI(M) at a protest in Majlishpur, recalling the 2003 Mandwai massacre. He accused the Left of violence and conspiracies, contrasting BJP’s politics of performance, democracy, and development since 2018.

The political climate in Tripura once again turned charged on Sunday as BJP leader and state minister Sushanta Chowdhury launched a scathing attack on the opposition CPI(M), accusing the Left party of spreading propaganda and being responsible for decades of violence in the state. The remarks came during a protest meeting organized under the banner of the 10-Majlishpur Mandal, held at Ranirbazar under the Majlishpur Assembly constituency.

The gathering, attended by party workers and local residents, was part of BJP’s ongoing campaign to highlight what it describes as the “dark legacy” of Left rule in Tripura. Speaking to his constituency’s people, Minister Chowdhury drew a sharp contrast between the BJP’s governance model and that of the CPI(M).

Accusations Against CPI(M)

“BJP believes in politics based on performance and public service. Unlike CPI(M), we do not rely on propaganda and conspiracies,” Chowdhury said while addressing the protest meeting. He alleged that during the CPI(M)’s rule, Majlishpur Assembly constituency witnessed repeated incidents of violence, unrest, and politically motivated attacks.

The minister went on to recall the 2003 Mandwai massacre, also known as the Mandwai genocide, in which 11 people were killed. Marking 22 years since the tragedy, Chowdhury accused the CPI(M) of orchestrating the incident. “It was a politically motivated conspiracy carried out by the Left. Former CPI(M) minister Manik Dey feared losing the election at the time, and thus the massacre was planned,” he alleged.

By bringing back the memories of one of the state’s darkest political episodes, Chowdhury attempted to remind the public of the CPI(M)’s record of violence. He said that the incident was not an isolated case but part of a larger pattern of unrest during Left rule.

Politics of Performance vs. Politics of Violence

Chowdhury emphasized that BJP’s rise to power in Tripura has brought stability, discipline, and development. He asserted that since 2018, when the BJP came to power, Majlishpur has not witnessed political terror or political murders.

“There has been no political terror and no political murders in Majlishpur after 2018. BJP is committed to democracy, the principle of Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas, and politics of development,” he said.

The minister highlighted that under the BJP, development projects are being implemented systematically, with discipline, and without the shadow of violence. He further underlined that BJP stands for constructive politics that prioritizes public welfare and long-term growth rather than divisive agendas.

Rallying Support for BJP

The protest meeting at Ranirbazar was not only a condemnation of the CPI(M)’s past actions but also a call to strengthen BJP’s grassroots presence in the region. Local leaders from the Majlishpur Mandal urged party workers to stay vigilant against what they termed as the opposition’s “false propaganda.”

Chowdhury reiterated that the BJP government is committed to delivering tangible results to the people of Tripura. Roads, health services, education facilities, and social welfare initiatives are being prioritized to uplift the constituency and the state as a whole. He argued that this stands in stark contrast to the CPI(M)’s years of governance, which he claimed left behind a legacy of fear and stagnation.

Looking Ahead

As the state gears up for upcoming political battles, Chowdhury’s remarks signal that the BJP intends to keep CPI(M)’s past violence at the center of its campaign narrative. By invoking the memory of the Mandwai massacre, the minister sought to remind voters of what he described as the “blood-stained politics” of the Left.

With Tripura’s political discourse becoming increasingly polarized, the BJP appears determined to consolidate its hold over constituencies like Majlishpur by focusing on both its governance record and the alleged failures of the CPI(M). The protest meeting, with its sharp rhetoric and strong allegations, is seen as part of a broader strategy to position BJP as the party of peace, discipline, and development in contrast to the CPI(M)’s alleged politics of violence.
