Tripura CM Sets March 2027 Deadline for Completion of Ongoing Development Projects

Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha has issued clear directions to all government departments to speed up implementation of infrastructure and social welfare projects and ensure their completion by March 2027. Stressing that the state cannot afford delays, he said both pace and quality of execution are equally important for Tripura’s development roadmap.

The Chief Minister was addressing a high-level review meeting at Conference Hall No. 2 of the State Secretariat on Monday, where senior bureaucrats and departmental heads gathered to discuss the status of ongoing works across the state.

Dr. Saha, who has often underlined accountability and efficiency in governance, reminded officials that timely completion of projects is directly linked with the state’s economic health. “Every project must be completed within the stipulated timeline, and quality standards should not be compromised. Regular inspections are necessary to ensure this,” he said.

Focus on Accelerating Pace of Work

The Chief Minister noted that in several areas, projects tend to get delayed due to shortage of labor or poor monitoring. He urged departments to anticipate such problems and make timely arrangements so that progress does not suffer. “Shortage of labor should not be an excuse for slowing down work. We must find solutions and keep the projects moving,” he said.

He also highlighted the need for stricter enforcement to prevent public property from being misused. Referring to the newly built footpaths in Agartala, Dr. Saha instructed municipal authorities to ensure that they are not encroached upon again. “Encroachment of newly constructed infrastructure defeats the very purpose of urban development. Authorities must remain vigilant,” he added.

Key Projects Under Review

During the meeting, the Chief Minister reviewed a wide range of projects that are expected to reshape Tripura’s urban and rural infrastructure in the coming years. Among the major projects discussed were:

  • The proposed new flyover in Agartala, aimed at easing traffic congestion in the rapidly growing capital city.

  • Road repair and drainage construction works to address urban flooding and improve connectivity.

  • The construction of a Unity Mall, part of the Centre’s initiative to promote local products and boost the “One District, One Product” campaign.

  • Setting up of a 200-bed Mother and Child Care Centre at AGMC and GBP Hospital, which will strengthen Tripura’s healthcare infrastructure and improve maternal and child health services.

  • Development of infrastructure for the new Dental College, which is expected to open new avenues in medical education.

  • Establishment of an Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Drug Addicts in Sipahijala district, along with 50-bedded Drug De-addiction Centres in every district, reflecting the state’s commitment to tackling the rising challenge of substance abuse.

Dr. Saha also took stock of projects undertaken by the Public Works Department (PWD), Housing Board, Tripura Urban Development Authority (TUDA), and those under the Smart City Mission, which aims to modernize Agartala with improved urban planning, transport systems, and civic amenities.

Significance of Timely Completion

Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha, speaking at the meeting, stressed that completing projects within the stipulated time and maintaining quality will have a direct positive impact on Tripura’s economy. “If projects are completed on schedule, the state’s financial system remains active and strong. At the same time, it makes it easier for new projects to be launched,” he explained.

Officials pointed out that infrastructure delays often lead to cost escalations, legal complications, and loss of public trust. A time-bound approach, they argued, will not only save public money but also help the government unlock further central assistance for new projects.

Broader Development Vision

Tripura has been witnessing a push in infrastructure and welfare projects in recent years. Under the Smart City Mission, Agartala has seen initiatives in intelligent traffic management, better drainage systems, and modernization of public spaces. Meanwhile, the state government has also focused on improving connectivity through new roads and bridges, while healthcare expansion is being prioritized with the establishment of new hospitals and medical colleges.

The Chief Minister’s emphasis on strict monitoring and accountability reflects his government’s larger approach towards building “a modern, efficient, and inclusive Tripura.” With the March 2027 deadline, the government hopes to synchronize state-level projects with national development targets, ensuring Tripura does not lag behind other states in infrastructure growth.

Senior Officials Present

The meeting was attended by several top officials, including PWD Secretary Kiran Gitte, Urban Development Secretary Abhishek Singh, Finance Secretary Apurba Roy, Tourism Secretary U.K. Chakma, Education Secretary Ravel Hemendra Kumar, and Smart City Mission CEO Dr. Shailesh Kumar Yadav, along with heads of multiple departments.
